I'm starting to have a few bad issues with 8.1. Admittedly it's only the preview version so I'll be reformatting tonight and installing Pro version.

But I'm looking forward to 9 already.

Hey all, so I've been using 7 for a while, before that win2k SP4 and before that Win95, and win95/3.11.

Anyways, I was having issues trying to get NVME drive working with windows 7. Firstly i couldn't get it installed, then discovered things about signed and unsigned drivers which is just BS that caused so much frustration and i wanted to use the nvme drive as my bootable OS drive...

So, i with much hesitation went to windows 10, and boy was i not happy, the bloated start menu which seems...

Password protect folder

As Windows doesn't, or no longer allows you to password protect a folder (or files), what would the good people here recommend to do the job please.

Not looking to protect a whole drive, just a few folders and files.

Edit: and protect those files if copied onto a USB drive.
Also be able to be opened by others with just the password.

and not need 3rd party software on the computer you want to open the file on.

Think of how we used to be able to password lock spreadsheets in Excel with a...

I used to download YouTube videos through site called keepvid.com then that site stopped working so I've been downloading YouTube videos using VLC Player(3.0.5 onwards), i.e.
(2:10 on video)

But I just tried VLC player to download a YouTube video and "Open Network Stream.." option doesn't seem to work on YouTube anymore(?), basically nothing happens when you enter in YouTube URL.. (tried with latest version 3.0.8 and 3.0.6 but same problem)

I have Windows 10 enterprise x64 1903 18362.592 which has been installed for at least 6 months.

I had windows defender disabled via group policy. Since a recent update defender real time scanning gets turned on every time I reboot.

Hi, got Logitech MK470 Slim Wireless Keyboard/Mouse Combo couple of days ago but can't find "Print Screen" button on the keyboard.

According to quick google search:
Hold down "fn" and press "Insert" to take a screenshot of all active monitors. Hold down "fn" + "alt" and press "insert" to capture only the active window. Yes, the normal Print Screen is fn+Insert

So I've tried both methods but doesn't seem to work, when I tried to paste with ctrl + v nothing happens.. ><

I have a folder of files and folders that I need to make copies of for each new project. Call this 'src' Say it has
Src
- file1
- folder1
- - file2

Then for each project I have a folder like
* Feb 1 Bob
* Feb 2 Jane

I want to copy this whole src folder to be a subfolder of the project. Easy just drag and drop. But I want to rename the files inside. So I get

Feb 1 Bob
- Existing file (possibly)
- Src
- - file1
- - folder1
- - - Feb 1 Bob <- some of the files get...

Im sure the keys for $20 are genuine but obtained via dodgy methods (stolen credit cards or bought in poor economy and resold in stronger ones). Not ideal to sell to customers for my business.

Is there any places to get a genuine key via genuine means apart from MS who likely overcharge?

Hoping for around $100-$140 mark for home, just don't want to have to keep buying physical copies for customers.

Or being a business is there a way to get better prices through MS or something?

Scenario:

I copied a several gigs worth of images off my camera's memory card to my computer's inbuilt (ssd) drive.
I moved all the jpg images into their own subdirectory. (I shoot RAW+JPG)
I sorted the raw images, and moved a few dozen "keeper" shots into a second subdirectory.

To free up space, I then moved the entire folder to an external HD. (One of the rare times I have done so without copying to a back-up drive first)

Let's imagine you are doing a fresh install of Windows 10.

What programs do you put on there first, as a matter of course, after you finish the install of Windows itself?

I always start with ninite.com to grab the ones I use which are there, and then go to websites to grab others individually.

For me, I generally put on:
Google Chrome
7-Zip
Irfanview
Teracopy
putty

MS Office will go on if I can transfer the licence from my old computer... otherwise...

Hey guys,

I typically all the time use a laptop with either WiFi or 4G on a connection with internet and a Ethernet plugged in simutaniously to use as a jumpbox or when I need to remotely configure something.

I've noticed recently that I'm no longer able to have an ethernet device plugged in with no default gateway whilst having a WiFi or Cellular device connected to an active connection with a default gateway/internet.

Windows now prioritises Ethernet traffic over WiFi which priorities...

Since 1903 Windows has stopped connecting to my LTE network automatically. If I select Windows manage this connection it never connects, but if I deselect that I can manually connect every time I start up and it works.

Anyone got any workarounds for this bug?

I'm going to be upgrading my PC, but am i able to do that and keep my current valid license for Win 10?
Upgrading the Mobo/CPU/RAM and adding an M.2 SSD or whatever they're called...

Or if i'm selling the old mobo/CPU/ram would the license go with them, and i get a new one?

Or is it easy to get a new free license somehow for the upgraded PC? .. or for whoever i sell the old hardware to?

So ive recently upgraded both my PCs to ryzen so in doing so i've had to upgrade to Win 10 (from ivy and haswell and win 7). Now hoping after 7 years of refinement (win 8 is basically same as 10 as win 7 same as vista) i thought stuff would be more stable by now.. obviously not.

After upgrading an old 1st gen i7 lappy to win 10 and it killed the hdd.. I stayed away from the free upgrade period on my main rigs. Missus brought a new lappy 2 years back.. upgraded to win 10 from 8.1 on that.....

Why Win 10 so trash still?

What free software is out there that I can use to see /test how well components of my system are performing?

GPU would obviously be interesting as would RAM, SSD, etc

But the Main thing I'm interested in is system temps and how well those are handled. So the ability to do stress tests on that - and also what's the best means of ongoing monitoring of system temps?

I gather there is a free version of AIDA64 Extreme ?

What else?
