But both are dual-link? or at least have dual-link connectors, maybe they are not all pinned.

The MSI is getting good reviews so purchased one today, should be a good upgrade over my 570 which served well I must say. Overclocking of these cards seems positive too.

Asus has their free games now... so... the Asus Strix or the Gigabye G1?

Edit: MSI is now getting you the free game as well.

the 970?, i like the way there are separate heatsinks on it incase you want to take the main one off and slap a water cooling block on it

I'm now hanging out for the 960/950 release.
Need a new card (and probably system) for the Missus.

    Hi folks,

I'm considering getting an upgrade from my 560ti to a 970, however I've got an i5-2500k...would I be bottle necked severely by the CPU or am I better of getting a 7XX series?

Anyone upgrade in a similar fashion? From the reading I've been doing I should be ok but I wouldn't mind some general opinion from experience people :)

Should probably mention that I only play in 1080p as well.

2500k are still pretty kick-ass, you won't have an issue running one of those with a 970. Make sure to update your mobo bios to the latest version before swapping out the graphics cards though.

Anyone here running the Gigabyte 980 G1 on 2 way SLI?

Want to know if it will fit my Z97 MSI Gaming 7.

I updated my EVGA 980's with a modded bios I got from a post on OCN.

By far the best bios I have ever used. 100% stable, perfect for SLI and gaming.

At the moment I have 1554 Core and 4000 (8000) Mem. The card companies should be coming out with these, not enthusiasts on forums (Kudos they do though!!).

No limits or throttling at the above settings.

In my case I should have made sure to remove AB before using the cards after updating the bios. Because of the change in default core and mem clocks, my existing settings in AB were a little problematic.

They were +130 core and +500 mem, lol. The resulting clocks were VERY interesting. Nvidia driver kept throwing up a message that it had stopped responding, and only just got small artifacts due to memory.

Being under water and max volts (which I have read that AB is UNDER reporting 1.275 is actually 1.30v) did not do any damage etc.

I literally love the bios. Perfect for me and my cards. :D

I just looked at a Pic of your board on PCCG.

I cannot see that being an issue due to the 2 x PCIE 1 slots in between the main PCIE slots, should fit quite well.

In saying that, others have said that the blower type coolers (stock) are better for SLI setups than tri-fans etc due to the way the air is drawn in from one end and expelled out the back of the case.

How much that would make a difference temps wise, I doubt very much.

The gigabyte fans are very quiet anyway.

If you are thinking of ever putting them under water, warranty "MAY" be an issue with Gigabyte. MSI are ok from what was posted on here a number of pages ago as well as EVGA obviously.

Oh well, I've waited long enough for AMD to announce/release a product that would make Nvidia counter with price drops. It looks like it's just not going to happen any time soon. Hence, the MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G will be mine!

I agree that it does suck for the early adopters, but that's par for the course really. Early adopters will always get screwed by price cuts, promotions, and new product releases (that supersede their existing product). With that being said though, early adopters also get to enjoy their product much sooner. From a business perspective, it wouldn't make much sense for Nvidia to honour previous sales with the promotion (unless, of course, they really needed the good PR), as doing so doesn't contribute to boosting new sales (which is the sole purpose of the promotion).

Do you mean I was one day too early?? Noooooo

Loving the card though, it's smaller than my Gigabyte 570 was (had a 3 fan cooler on it) and it's quieter. Also OC'ed it to 1450 off the bat and it hasn't blinked an eyelid. Far Cry 4 on ultra everything and never drops below 50fps and that's only in the towns. Great card.

FarCry 4 fried my 580 last night so I went out and got a G1 980 to replace it.

I was hoping to be able to wait until some 6 or 8gb 980's came out but meh. I'll probably end up building a new ubergaming only system with a Rog Swift and will see then if I even need more video ram.

    Irony.
