Hi we are looking for options to get internet down to our shed roughly 100m away. It is down hill from the house but after a we remove a small tree should have a clear line of site. Main need for wifi down there is for security cameras. I have just been looking at a basic wireless long range bridge on amazon. But i'm not good with networking and want something simple. Also i know we will need a twitch as we are out of ports on the modem. Any help would be appreciated
thanks, So the 1 on the house should get power from the poe switch, the 1 on the shed will need a poe injector i assume for power. that correct?
If your goal is to put security cameras in the shed, just get another PoE switch and use it to power the nanostation and the cameras.
oh yeah. Haven't decided on cameras yet, was considering a couple of the eufy wireless turrets with solar panels. but just trying to help out the parents
also would i need a access point in the shed connect to the nanostation or could i connect direct to the nanostation?
Pretty sure you just need to set the receiving side to access point mode and disable air max, then clients should be able to connect to it
The nanostations use a directional antenna so they are only really designed to talk to things in front of them. You could probably make it work a bit by putting the antenna on the far side of the shed or using the weak rear lobe, but you're just setting your self up for other problems like collisions due to hidden nodes. It will be far more reliable and efficient to just set up a second AP for the clients on a non-overlapping channel.
yeah i figured that, i was looking at Ubiquiti airMAX airCube Home Wi-Fi Access Point at scorptec . use it to power the nanostation
I wouldn't... they are a pile of crap. Also not the same ecosystem as the other UNifi so you need to log in chance anything they are pita As above.. PoE Switch, powers the nano, A Wap inside the shed and the cameras
I've got a similar setup: Nanostation on house, powered from the 'main' PoE Switch (but in my situation the Nanostation uses a different PoE voltage to the switch, so had to add some 'dongle' inline which dropped the voltage). Nanostation on shed (powered from PoE GPO adapter - which I reckon comes with the nanostation). Shed Nanostastion ->Cat6-> Unifi WAP Lite for Wifi devices in the shed. The Nanostations have been excellent once setup.
thanks, the nanostation i was looking at dont have the poe injector/power, i think the next price range up did. Was looking a a 5 port poe switch
Any of the WiFi 6 WAP’s that fit your budget. Once again... Nanostation into a PoE Switch, WaP into same switch.. and all under a Unifi Controller. Then you can remotely manage it all. Bingo Bango easy to configure and set and control.
