Any suggestions for a naked portafilter and tamper for the dual boiler? I want to dial in my shots and the default portafilter doesn’t cut it.

In that case, you should be buying 250g bags of coffee from local roasters - try and find one you like (usually best to just buy a cup at a cafe that serves their coffee) and then try various roasters, once you find the ones you like, you'll end up knowing the flavour profiles you like, and can mix it up a bit to keep it interesting.

As I said $40/kg is proper specialty roaster territory, and fresh beans will always be better than those bought from a supermarket, no matter how many awards.

So... There is the Kees van der Westen Speedster...
Though you'll struggle to find a machine without chrome parts when it comes to the brew head.

Maybe the La Marzocco Linea Micra, or perhaps the Mini.

So after much time and research, I placed an order for a slayer classic 4.0. The steam version doesn't have their patented needle valve and is completely different machine from what made slayer in the first place Imo.

Unfortunately, pickings are slim locally. The only roaster who does beans locally (or at least for local cafes) is my mate, who I've often gotten coffee from (usually cold brew from the same beans I'm now currently running through the machine). It'll be a trial and error online I think.

The bag I got from woolies has been really nice. I've thoroughly enjoyed it as an espresso and cappuccino, but I dunno if it's in my head or whatever but when I have it as a normal coffee, it doesn't taste great...

Might be worth saying what you want for each individually, I know even if I had the money (which I don't) I wouldnt want both. I imagine most people after an R58 have a decent grinder, and most people after a mythos one have a decent machine (possibly even a decent :p)

My ‘old faithful’ coffee machine died so I bought this thing to replace it. I’m not happy with it and all that I really want is a machine with manual controls.

I don’t do hot milk and I don’t want to worry about watching temps and pressures, I just want a simple espresso machine. Can anyone think of one that might be suited to me please?

What do you mean by manual controls sorry? Bambino's are pretty popular options, but I didn't like the lack of control over temp for long blacks and found it a bit limiting with pressure for lighter roasts.

the sunbeam you linked doesn't have a temp or pressure gauge, what's the issue with it ?

edit - what model/brand was old faithful ??

Just and on/off for the espressing side the same as the steam side has. I’m seeing a lot of machines with automatic single shot and double shots and I don’t want that.

I only drink double shot long blacks or an “Americano” if that what they call them.

There is no “on” for the brew side just the automatic shots setting.

I don’t have it anymore but I will try and find out. It was a cheap Sunbeam model and worked perfectly for the last four years.

this is the old one and has all the functionality I’m looking for, tell me when it’s hot enough and has enough pressure with the brew light and a knob to start the brew side of it.
