I have purchased several ebay and non-ebay replacements for this tablet but they have all been crap. The battery size is 125mm x 78mm x 3mm thick with a capacity of 4900mAh.

What I am looking for is a Lithium polymer battery that is not NOS i.e. 2024 manufacture or later and has a genuine capacity of around 4900mAh.

A physically smaller but thicker battery to, say, 6mm would be fine - the back would probably bulge but that would be preferable to the current (sorry) somewhat ghetto setup.

Having had a look at the battery on eBay, your chances are pretty much zero - it's not a generic battery, but rather one that's been designed specifically for the tablet (and that has a specific and non-standard connector). While you can sometimes convert the standard silver lithium polymer pouch cells, it looks like the Tab's battery is a lithium ion which is a slightly different and incompatible chemistry.

Having taken one apart it is in fact just an "ordinary" battery with a presumably protection circuit board added with the non-standard connector soldered to that board.

Hence my request for a battery that has the size that will fit in the tablet. I can solder the protection board to it and the tablet is up and running. An 18650 works just fine but as I said somewhat too ghetto for long term use.

Ah, sorry - didn't realise you'd already tested with an 18650. Locally, the only people I've found are Core Electronics and Ecocell, though skimming through their products I didn't see any that would fit the space you've got. Alternatively, you can find good stores on Aliexpress, though it's probably safest to check how long the store's been around and what their ratings look like. This one ('Easylander') is an example of somewhere I'd consider, given they've been around for 14 years and only sell LiPo pouch cells.

Have you had any issues with the 18650 being charged to 4.35 V by the tablet? Only wondering because I've always been warned about going above 4.2 V for any lithium battery that's not HV rated and that could get a few extra Wh for some projects.

No, given it was for short term testing purposes.

EDIT: Given your concern I fully charged an EB-BT705FBC. I have an in-line USB meter that monitors charging current and also mAh input.

The terminal voltage when first measured (with DVM) was 4.15V. Leaving it on charge for a few more minutes the voltage rose to 4.18V. I doubt that the voltage would ever get anywhere near the 4.35V under normal conditions.

    Thank you for the links.
