Just realised there's a mass produce case (BOO!) that perfectly suits my need for HTPC so I won't be needing to DIY anymore. Best of luck to the rest, may you win $1! :p

There has been a bunch of household upgrades happening here so I have been hoarding stuff like old shelves and cabinet doors destined for the bin. Goal is to be well under the $100 (unless I totally fuck everything and have to go an buy everything).

Plan is 420mm rad cooling ATX which is set up to be both the HTPC and daughters computer. So maybe 3 x gpu (if I cannot get server part of it to boot onboard..... aka 2 gamers 1 cpu from Linustechtips).

Wife kicked me out of the study..... so now the HTPC is being hot rodded for strong 4K gaming...... which jigger me pink the Fury X does wonderfully well in Battlefield 1 and 4 and other less demanding games I own.

You know you're meant to Buy everything for the whole build at bunnings, not re-use bits you have at home.

    @ everyone

The stuff/ Materials you already have at home, New or Used, "Can only be used for Templetes, Jigs, Moulds,Guides/Straight Edges, Clamps/ Clamping etc etc"

They are "Not to be used for Any Part Actual Build"

lol I grabbed some bits today and wondered how many people will make a case out of wood and just nicely stain it etc.

Probably one of the cheaper ways of doing it

it depends on wether we walk around with blinkers on or if we look at other ways an item could be used other than the intended marketed item:)

Did you price Perspex. That'll knock the budget out of the park !

I've also done the rounds and it certainly isn't an easy challenge but I am confident it can be done,

You need to think outside the square ;)

A prototype for my latest project.. plastic cake containers. I paid 3 bucks each for these from some chinese variety shop. I'm not in the challenge, feel free to steal any ideas you like.

The one currently supporting the monitor will become a partial mold for a black gel coated fibreglass base for the monitor, into which I will incorporate a flat lower rear for IO, and some air vents. The problem with fibreglass of course is that you can't see through it, but that's what I'm looking for in my own case this time.

You could of course look for some 250mm perspex tube, available online but that's no use in a Bunnings challenge. In fibreglass, whole different story. Everything you need is in Bunnings, well within your budget.

No PSU, this is powered by a 500W brick. GPU is a lowly 1050Ti LP.

By sheer luck, the 250mm glass base for my new monitor is a perfect fit for these containers. Rectangular ones would be easy enough to make, just use a box about the right size as a mold for your fibreglass, then cut, join and modify as required. I love fibreglass :D

Upper edge will be a 15mm top hat (raising monitor height 15mm), above the stock wraith spire on my 1700 with about 200° of it open at rear for air intake. That's a magnetic 120mm filter over the spire, obviously not sticking to anything right now.

Switches, lights and front USB will be within the front of the top hat.
