Sounds like a bad run on the 8700K as on average 8700K on user benchmark perform about 5% quicker than 3600 with overclocked results in the double digits with 1-8 threads.
But with 64 threads AMD multithreading is a bit more efficient than Intel HT.

In Cinebench the 3600 will equal the 8700K for single threaded and smash it in multithreaded.

userbenchmark again, who cares. Not even the clocks are consistent, and how many are running MCE?

In cinebench 3600 beats 8700k in ST and MT , not that i'm talking about Cinebench on its own, .

Two of the three links you provided show the 8700K is faster in cinbench ST but 3600 always wins MT.

It is a benchmark like any other so it gives a good idea of how the CPU will perform if you can read between the lines but obviously depending on the software you use which processor is faster can change so if all you care about is real world results in the programs you use then that is fine.

The biggest problem with early user benchmark results is that they are run by random users which may have problems with there system affecting the score and it is only once they have a large pool of data that this can average out to a more accurate result vs proper reviews where they try to use similar hardware and very clean OS with a lot of processes disabled for consistent results.

user benchmark shows 10700K performs between 9900K and 9900KS which would be accurate.

    Fair enough

As you say, it's problematic for those reasons, and whilst it presents itself as something more, it's just a single and very synthetic benchmark that should be combined with the many others to remove bias to one architecture or another (that are more repeatable, and more industry accepted)

Comet Lake only partially fixes 1 or 2 varients of Meltdown. You'd expect pretty insignificant gains for majority of benchmarks given how little all the patches affect your typical benchmarks

Has intel lost the plot? 10700K for $749...

How is this supposed to claw back at Ryzen? Equivalent 3700X is around $500, plus 125W TDP wtf.

    Blame local retailers:
    10700 $400 USD $750 AUD
    3700X $300 USD $500 AUD

it should be replacing 9700K price point, so should settle to around $600

They are over priced but what can you do except go over to the dark side and as I've said, I'm not ready to sell the Mrs or a kidney to get a top threadthripper.

Here's a question, are you guys ( who are going to get new CPU) going to pre order or wait until more details and reviews come out ?
I'm tempted to order now but I don't want to spend $2000 plus extras on what might be a lemon .
( Board, CPU, new case etc.).

yeah well I hope this doesn't end up another BTX i.e. a good idea that would move standards forwards but never gets off the ground due to chicken-and-egg

Buildzoid said that it's stupid to preorder either board or CPU. The CPUs won't be readily available at launch, and you'll have a mobo sitting there for which you paid early adopter's premium for.

Very tempted to pre order, I think I’ll wait for some reviews to come out.
