    Hello,

Does anyone know if it is still possbile to setup Exchagne online mailboxes in Outlook 2013 if you turn on modern authentication via the following registry entries?

I know Microsoft turned off basic auth on 1 Oct 2022 but this month I've been trying to setup a mailbox in Outlook 2013 this month and cannot get authentication to occur. We are using 2FA and have used the below reg fixes to get around this but this month it doesnt work and I'm reading some articles that Microsoft may have ended this this month but wanted to check if others are experiencing the same issue.

    Thanks

Enable Modern authentication for Office 2013 on Windows devices

Microsoft Office 2013 on Microsoft Windows computers supports Modern authentication. But, to turn it on, you need to configure the following registry keys:

    Registry key Type Value
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\AlwaysUseMSOAuthForAutoDiscover REG_DWORD 1
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Identity\EnableADAL REG_DWORD 1
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Identity\Version

Microsoft said they're not going to support Office 2013 (and 2016) connecting to 365 come October this year. If that doesn't help you convince whoever insists you keep using Office 2013 that it's a bad idea, then I would take it to assume that some form of authentication with Office 2013 should still work with 365 until October.

yes this works. You may also need Office 2013 patches - check your outlook versions.

    Get off 2013 already.

OCAU Retro subforums have a rule that anything 10 years old is classed as "retro". Just sayin'.

It'll likely work beyond October 2023 until such time as MS introduce a breaking auth change.

The BIGGEST unanswered question in OCAU history is....Did Mitch01 ever fuckin migrate to O365.

(only bring it up because I remember he was manually releasing all mail)

Every story needs a conclusion... so why not a necrobump. Actually logged in to see if I could tell from my Mitch01 days how long I'd been on forums for!

    In dot point form:
    - Company hit financial trouble way before covid.
    - Company attempted to downsize and failed.
    - Company then tried to sack employees to avoid paying them out (we had a very good package).
    - When that failed workplace bullying and harassment ramped up to an insane level on existing employees trying to get them to quit or resign.
    - I ended up going on a mental health break as a result of it (as they effectively triggered a mental breakdown and I got police involved in the end it got that bad for using a carriage service ot threaten, menace or harass).
    - Ended up forcing them to make me redundant, then had to launch legal action to get my rightful package paid in full.
    - Company ended up going arse up before covid and shut all operations.

I'm now long out of IT, and retrained into an industry I'm loving (social / support work in the mental health and child protection space), but the ironic thing is how well the company I now work with have migrated O365. Looking back it would have made life so much simpler and things so much more managable for everyone back then.
