Right well, i stumbled across 15 CD drives on the side of the road today, there was some old ass mobo and NIC cards as well and some <300watt PSU's aswell.

can anybody think of anything interesting i can do with this shit?

there is also a old ass CRT monitor there, anything i can do with that?

Don't need to build that many... Assume half the drives are dead, and put 3 drives in each PC. :D

As seen in atomic magazine.. you could use the outsides of the cd drives as radiator shrouds in water cooled pc's.. easy to mount inside your case ;).

if they're burners you could make 14 copies of a CD at a time. Make sure you only use them for legitimate backup purposes though ;)

I like the idea of the radiator shroud, so +1 for that.

Provided they were burners of course.

You could always make some homemade lasers if you are electronically inclined.

    I was thinking random art?.

Eject and close in some random or predefined pattern.

It would be interesting to say the least :p.

Ohh, squares stuck on the end of the trays!!! All come together to make one picture, that kinda moves. I'd love to see that :D (16drives would be best but hahah).

CD lasers are infrared and can blind you without you even knowing it's on. Don't play with the lasers.

Just dont look directly into the beam, being a laser the light shoots in a relatively straight direction out from the lens.

Disclaimer: Im not responsible for anyones blindness, blah, blah, blah, lasers should only be handled by trained professionals, blah blah blah

How about a big server with heaps of HDD's and then you can make it ur game server.

That way you can never need to take CD's out... and it woulc hold heaps
