Working in Property Management. Pretty rivveting stuff. A lot of walking around checking rooms and wiping walls. Sometimes I go and shovel snow. :leet:

You can usually just see me walking around central.. haha

wow. so much snow at Buller :)

It blizzarded a lot but got the family up and we had an absolute blast. well, the kids and I did - mrs wasn't a huge fan of snowboarding but will try skiing next time. I reckon 50cm fell in the time we were up there - we arrived on Friday night around 9pm. had a bit of a late one and didn't get up early enough, but got wife and kids into lessons which they learned heaps from. Youngest daughter had never been so had a first timers lesson which ended up being just her with 2 instructors for 3 hrs, and eldest daughter who had been once last year and ended up with a private lesson with one instructor for 3 hours! Managed to get some awesome runs in down little buller spur, shakey knees, tyrol and standard. Spent a fair bit of my time trying to get better at switch riding which was fun, challenging and painful all rolled into one. Sadly it seems my ability to land jumps has diminished greatly.

Roll on the boys weekend in mid-july so I can have some me-time! :D :D :D

Looked at the cost to get to Buller for a long weekend - ended up buying tickets and accom in Queenstown.

Any tips for a first-timer in Queenstown (but not a first-timer in terms of skiing)?

Guessing that's just for yourself? Airfares don't scale the same way for a family as driving does... but given the accommodation costs here if we're going to do a full week it may well be worth it.

Good snow wise, not so good people wise

Kid dies at Buller after snow fell on him from a roof.
and now a snowboard at Perisher.

Stay safe if your sliding this year.

Just my personal opinion - I think its worth spending the $$ to get good boots , and spend the time shopping around to find some that feel like a good match for your feet.

uncomfortable boots will ruin a day of boarding

    +1

bad boots makes for a horrible day on the snow. Just hire some boots, but take note of the brand and size so if you plan on going back you can buy some similar.

If you've got the time, check out the Crossboard demo hut near the Blue Bullet. My mate hired one for a day and loved it so much he hired it for his 2nd and 3rd day at which point he decided he's definitely buying one :) http://www.crossboard.co/

I think fergburger just gets a lot of hype. I'd rather go eat pizza at Winnie's in Queenstown.

That said, I head up on Saturday to Perisher. Should be good.

yeah the warmer weather has been here for a couple of weeks. 2 weeks ago at Buller the snow was already getting really slushy and patchy - it's been mostly bluebird days since I was there too, so I reckon the season is winding down.

hope you have a blast :)
