im interested too just what they've come up with in over 10+ years, whether its sellable in its current form.

meh, won't be missing 3D realms much. good riddance if they're really gone.
Apogee (before they renamed to 3Drealms) published a lot games back in DOS days, you can see the list yourselves in wikipedia.
Besides Prey, and probably Max Payne, nothing much comes to mind lately.

edit: i wonder why there is such a lack of interest in this topic, considering the several "i will wait for dnf until I die" clubs that have sprung up in ocau.

because we dont want to believe it is true, the game should at least be finished enough to get released even if they are dead...wishful thinking?

I'm sad to hear it - 3D Realms, despite their much-maligned handling of DNF, had a hand in introducing some important entries into PC gaming, notably Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior, and as a publisher they brought out Max Payne and Prey.

I read that the publishing rights to DNF remains with Take 2 Interactive.

Who knows if DNF will ever see the light of day? Regardless, its amazing to think that after all these years, there's still speculation about DNF even after the news of 3D Realms' demise.

I think Shadow Warrior was the last decent game they released, over 10 years ago.
Bunch of fucking amature tools. No game should ever take this long to make.

While a small, unrealistically optimistic part of me is disappointed I won't get to play DNF, for the most part I'm glad that a software house so obviously mismanaging software development has shut down. It was embarrassing to the profession.

So where is the save duke charity fund setting up?

I don't buy many games but i would be willing to donate if there is even a chance i will ever get to buy duke forever. It could be the worst game in the world but i have been waiting far too long to not get a chance to love or hate it!

Cross-posting this from the DNF thread, as its relevant to 3D Realms' demise.

    Source

The shacknews user 'cubeblue' has a 2nd-hand account of what happened at 3D Realms it seems (given his brother worked at 3D Realms). This is what he was quoted as saying:

I remember I wanted Shadow Warrior so bad because of how awesome Duke3D was but I only had a 486 - 66mh

and it needed Pentium requirements. :upset:

That is a lot of staff they had. I can imagine the amount of money going out every week without much coming in.

Shadow Warrior Memorable Quotes - kinda funny that IMDB has a more thorough list of quotes than any other webpage out there :p

 Oh man, do yourself a favour and get a copy of it - its really good fun in the Duke Nukem 3D style, and there's a WIP hi-res texture pack project for it as well.

There's also an add-on called Wanton Destruction - it was made freely available for download at 3D Realms site a while ago (link).

And being a Build engine-based game like Duke Nukem 3D, there's tools, mods, and multi-platform ports for it. See the links on Shadow Warrior wiki.
