I'm betting it will be Australian based tech support for NVIDIA products.
(The owner of 3DFX ASSETS if I recall correctly)

They will be based in Sydney and called the Voodoo Gurus.

    (Sorry, I'll show myself out)

    Day 1, sign me up.

    Loved my Voodoo2.

Sure, but Godwin demands I recognise that 3DFX teaser image is reminiscent of 1940s German propaganda and - Q.E.D - 3DFX are most like nazi sympathisers.

Memory is a bit sketchy, it was a long time ago. I could be very wrong, but I remember reading that nVidia bought up a lot of the 3dfx IP.

They may not have bought the trademarks, as these would likely be worthless to them.

If this is the case, then there's nor reason why someone else couldn't own the 3dfx name and trademarks.

It will be interesting to see what it's all about :)

I've read that Nvidia did own the 3Dfx trademark as well but apparently that expired a few years ago.

If this isn't a troll there is no way they'd have the capital to even think about competiting with Nvidia/AMD so I'd comfortably rule that out.

At most if there is a new 3Dfx brand it would just be another rebranded Nvidia/AMD card. Really not that hard to set up these days as there are plenty of manufacturers in China who offer this service for just about everything including video cards.

Nvidia purchased all 3DFX IP, so even if they no longer hold the TM for the name and brad it's not like they will be using any of that IP, they would be starting from scratch with GPU's and I can't see anyone doing that.

That would be pretty funny and not a bad move to be honest.

Ahhh memories. A 12mb Voodoo 2 was my first ever 3D card. It did only 3D and required a passthrough cable to the 2D card/onboard GPU.

I remember being blown away at really 3d graphics and the sheer speed at which they ran hardware accelerated.

    Unfortunately it's completely fake.

I spent 5 mins doing some digging, and all 3DFX trademarks have been cancelled or abandoned, and 3DFX Interactive's company registration was revoked in 2011.

If there was going to be some kind of 'relaunch' of the brand, the first thing that would be done is register the trademark.

    So - poop :thumbdn:

They came in boxes? I got my original 3dfx in an anti static bag with a cd from a dude behind a trestle table in a town hall. Good old days of swap meets! How cool was running GLQuake and having an advantage of seeing through the water surface.

gl-quake was godly. Screamer2 with rear brake light reflections on wet roads was gobsmacking.
