Well the big day arrived and the much awaited 40D arrived.

My first impressions are that the camera is very well put together..little things like the on board flash..it dosnt "pop up" like on the 30D..it sounds like there's a "motor driven" release.

The rear screen is huge and very bright. The menus although a little different from the 30D are very easy to navigate and the buttons that used to be on the left side of the screen on the 30D are now under the screen (dosn't bother me).

6.5 frames per second...HOLY SHIAT!!! You should hear it...

The 30D grip fits nicely..(little story here) when I picked it up from Photocontinental the guy that served me..I asked him to remove the battery cover so that I could check to see if it fitted...he looked at it for about 5 minutes and said.."It cant come off..its not made to come off". I said.."then how the hell do you put a battery grip on it"? DOH! Anyhow you just angle it slightly and pull it off.

From the few test shots that I have taken so far..Im happy. Even at higher ISO settings most images seem usable.

Will take some pics later on and post em up.

Hmmm Elements 5.0 won't open the images now..says "Not supported".

Will post some when I have sorted this out.

Funny..it opens images I took with the 30D and they are also CR2 files.

sounds like canon might have changed the compression algorithm on the raw files. that will be fun - i already have enough issues with vista 64bit.

Install the copy of DPP that came with the camera to open the RAW files until Adobe brings out an update to support it.

    I'm sure he is =P

Could you do some AI Servo tests and tell us how it compares to the 30D in terms of accuracy and speed? Sure this is one thing that all of us are very interested in.
