Just got 2 x XFX 4890's XXX edition and thought I'd try to run them with a 4870X2. I thought it should work and it does.
I just put the cards in, started windows (W7) it did it's thing, reboot and all worked 1st go.

The sound card is to long to fit in the top pci-e 1x slot so I had to put it in one of the 16x slots.

    PCI-E Slot 1: is the 4870X2 running at 16x pci-e.
    PCI-E Slot 2: is the 1st 4890 running at 8x pci-e
PCI-E Slot 3: Asus xonar essence STX
    PCI-E Slot 4: is the 2nd 4890 running at 8x pci-e

Might also try the 4870X2 in slot 4 and the 4890 in slot one just to see if there is any performance difference.

    There is a bit of a clock speed difference with the 4870X2 @ 750/900 and the 4890's @ 900/975.

For now I'm just happy it works, will do some more changes to make it run as good as it can, all experimental at this stage.

It looks better with 2 x 4870X2's, we'll see how it performs with the 4890's.

I said "I thought it should work and it does"
    Someones had a hard day..lol
    And thanks mate

    Didn't think you would:tongue:
I started putting it all together after we got off the ph, used just one adaptor and still managed to make it neat, took a while though.
PS, FL just got home from the pub, so he has NFI what he's talking about:lol:

Maybe hey, didn't think of that. Gotta install some games and see if it does or not.

I'll just try games that I play, not gonna install a 6Gb bench game.

    i7 950, Crucial Ballistix tracers red 1600Mhz C7, EVGA Classified 760.
I thought the pics were a dead givaway at least for the mobo:D

Had a long day, but didn't mean it to sound like that.

Maybe I’m just jealous of all the hardware porn!

Is it possible for ATI drivers and windows to recognise 5 gpus? or is 4 the limit?

Just thinking alba if you had one of the long crossfire bridges you could put a x2 up the top, 4890 in the middle and the long bridge accross to another x2 down the bottom, you would also need one hell of a PSU

Quad core GPU setup is the limit atm isnt it? I think for both ATi and Nvidia.

Yep, quad-fire is the limit as far as drivers go.

Well done Alba, doing it well for the red team buddy!

    Nice setup!

Whats the stability like? Any blue screens that you think may be related to xfire?

    Thanks AT

TBH I didn't know what to expect

No stability issues at all, runs like it was made for it, cant fault it at all apart from the 470watts idle and over 900watts load, but that's to be expected with 6 HDD's and 4 of those are raptors, 7 fans, water cooling, the i7 at 4.5GHz sucks a heaps of juice and the vid cards.

Had a go of FEAR 2, only game I have installed atm, ran fraps to check fps. All setting maxed out with 8x AA and 16x AF 1920x1200 and it never went below 300fps, was sitting just below 400fps most of the time, and no stuttering or jerkiness at all, like we though it might with the gpu's at different speeds.
