I just had this strange theory about the new update and I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the rumoured "valhalla" revision that came out on the net a few months back? I think it's pushing towards true because initial images are showing no slots for the MUs not to mention a smaller PCB, and having both CPU and GPU on the same die.

I dunno about you but it sounds like valhalla might be the 360's version of the slim...who knows!

I thought everyone figured that out already. A redesigned 360 is coming, without memory card slots with USB as a replacement, and other redesigned features, and it's just a matter of announcing it at E3. Count on it.

I just assumed people figured it out in their heads. Pictures of a new motherboard revision without memory card slots, and then an update allowing USB storage very shortly after that. I guess I just expect too much.

it definitely does support the idea of a possible "slim" 360.

I don't think there should be any doubt about a redesigned 360 coming out this year. MS has said many times they consider the Natal release to be a relaunch and rebranding of the 360, and what better way to do that then to release a redesigned console free of the ridiculous RROD troubles, and cash in on the Slim effect that the PS2 and PS3 did so well with.

the latest firmware update certainly shows that MS is going in that direction.

i didn't notice it at the time because i was thinking that it had to be a fake cos the fan threw me off! but since this update it does make sense that there aren't any MU slots on it to save manufacturing costs and therefore lean towards a slim.

At the end of the day they will both do the same thing so i am not sure why people that just bought a current x360 are upset.

Hey Drew, you going to be using the money I paid you for the camera that you never posted and haven't refunded?

it's not about being upset cos i don't use MUs at all...i just like the idea of upgrading to a newer version.

Newer does not always equal better and i reckon you'd be a fool to drop a current gen and go straight to a first gen slim, it will have problems microsoft has never released anything without issues so i would be patient and let other people be guineapigs and then trade up after we know for certain all is well and good, even then it it's just the looks that are changed then i will not bother.
