I'm experiencing quite a strange problem with an Abit Airpace Wifi card (product link).

Every 2nd time I boot up my machine the card disappears completely from the device manager as an installed device. Every other time it detects fine and connects to the wireless network. No other problems with the device, functions perfectly for what it's designed.

    Hardware/software details are as follows:
Mobo - Abit IP35 Pro (Intel P35 chipset)
OS - Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (problem is the same on Vista Ultimate 64bit)

First suspected driver problems. The card is essentially a rebadged Azureware AW-GE870 but their driver package does not function. Abit's site has Vista64 drivers from 2007 but these are the same as Azureware's. The card's chipset is apparently an Atheros, drivers for either their AR5006X or AR5006XS chipset do install when you point device manager to them.

Now I think it's a possible motherboard/chipset problem but am unable to guess what would cause so a routine, predictable error.

    Any ideas would help.

Windows 7 automatically detects Atheros chips. Try uninstalling your drivers and let windows detect them.
