Looking great as always Skip.

What are you planning for a finish on this one mate?
Going to stain it or just lacquer and polish to keep the blonde maple colour?

Awesome work on the punch-outs in the alu backplate. So precise.
I love the way the outer shell slides on over the frame, great bit of design.

Thanks. The finish will be an amber-tinted shellac. I have never used stain in a project. What you see in the photos is birch and basswood. The birdseye maple veneer I'll be using will go on later. The "punch-outs" on the I/O plate were made using a drill, small hobby files and 14 hours of time. I appreciate your comment.

    Thank you and welcome!

Going with some old-school shellac with an amber tint. That is either an enormous can or tiny, tiny computer case.

    Thanks for looking!

    Thanks. I appreciate that!

The colors in these photos aren't correct. I had a miss-fire with my white balance setting. The birds-eyes are holographic which can never be photographed correctly so this piece will always look better in person than a photo can display.

Decided to go with a plain black acrylic button on the front. I used my Forstner bit to make a template. Used files and sandpaper to make a round piece of acrylic out of a square piece of acrylic. Later I'll use the Forstner bit to make the pocket it fits in.

The base in between coats. I read that shellac is crazy hard to work with and they weren't lying. Ground up bugs dissolved into moonshine.

Finished cutting out my acrylic sidepieces. The holes make it easy to pop the sidepieces out from behind. Helpful during construction and finishing. The color is awful in these photos but will have to do.

OK. Thanks. Let's see how it turns out. Plenty of opportunity to screw this up.

Color still isn't right but OK for working photos.
