Anyone flown with air Fiji before, i am about to book some flights for myself and family (wife and 3 young kids). So far Air Fiji is looking like the most economical solution by about 2 grand, but i know nothing about the airline and don't know anyone who has flown with them. Any suggestions or cautions?
They're Air Pacific under a different name right? They're alright, nothing to write home about. Haven't flown them in about 15 years though.
Flew with them a couple of years ago. Syd-Nadi-LA Was the worst flight I've been on. Seated in the very last row of their 747. The hostesses were nice enough, very pleasant. The plane was very run down. I had exposed wires at my feet. Was quite unsettling being in that thing at 40k feet, in the middle of the pacific. Toilets were filthy, food was average. Entertainment system... Didn't exist, wasn't working. I think they played VHS movies on the big screen towards the front of the cabin. My reading lamp didn't work, but the switch did. I kid you not, when I used my light switch, someone else's reading light would come on roughly 15 rows ahead of me. No shit. This poor woman was having a fit as her light was flashing on and off while I played with the switch.
likewise - been about 15 years for me and they were OK back then only a short flight from BNE too now however.... http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/pacific.htm
Qantas own 46% of Fiji Airways. In the past couple of years they've renewed their fleet and now have a few new A330's for long haul flights - average age of 1 year. Their 737 fleet is much older, at around 12 years average age.
I flew business with them to Nadi a couple of years ago. Dated plane but wasnt anything concerning. You just going to Fiji? Not that long a flight really.
Yeah, Air Fiji are fine. Last time we went to Fiji, we booked QANTAS and the plane was Air Fiji. No issues, good flight.
Yep, Air Pacific rebranded to Fiji Airways, and replaced all their fleet with new planes. Flew on a 747 of theirs a while ago. Fairly pleasant. Nothing flash, but no issues either. Normally flying over there I use V Australia (as well as for interstate flights).
You'll definitely have a layover in Fiji. How long though it's hard to tell.. I've flown to Fiji on the SYD > LAX via Fiji Airways ages ago when they had the 747's.
One of the cheapest ways ex-east coast au in business to usa. Flown them a few times in the last couple of years, don't expect too much. Also don't get too annoyed with the slow service, relaxed attitude, etc - they're just preparing you for the famous "fiji time" nice and early.
