I had one reserved but cancelled when i managed to pickup a 6800xt for real. I was worried that they would come into stock just after I ordered the card.

Reading posts from October in this thread be like :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:.

    This one caught my eye:

Tell me you didn't do that? Please.

FWIW I got one of the first Scorptec "reserve" orders for a 6800 XT - still waiting. Eta is 02 June 2021. Not all bad though, the card has appreciated $600 or 150% in 5 months. That's better interest than my bank pays!!!!

There still seems to be plenty of 6700xt stock available, I'm not sure why people aren't snapping them up considering they're just a bees dick behind a 3070 in performance but hundreds of dollars cheaper.

There is also a 6800xt with a 1625 reserve here that is getting no attention. Inflated yeah but good value if you don't care about RT and stand it up next to a 3080 going for 2.2k+. Mining seems to be the answer.

I am tempted to pick it up myself but taking a loss on this 6700xt and paying overs for a 6800xt that is obviously not selling amazingly well is a bit of a pill to swallow right now. I should just be happy with what I have :)

They're definitely the best bang for buck performance card available. If you really wanted/needed a GPU now, the 6700 XT Red Devil for $999 is basically a no brainier. I can't see any thing else close in $/frame available.

However you could factor in that RX 6800/6900 cards are currently making >$10/day in NiceHash or 3080/3090's making $15-20+, into some sort of cost recovery against the inflated prices and instead justify purchasing one of those instead...

You can regularly jump online and get a 6700XT for sub-1k. That's not happening with a 3070.

I also don't understand the nvidia popularity.

I've been looking over the last couple of weeks as I've been trying to help with a friends build, I have seen nothing close to that. I'm just going off what's available right now, if you get a lucky once off a month ago it's not really representative (and things have changed since then). I would certainly get a 3070 over a 6700 XT, but not at the ~$300 more (minimum for cheap model) that is their current price difference where available in stock.

Back on topic somewhat, I just want to mention these cards and their power scaling. It's really refreshing after coming from back to back Nvidia cards which tend to just run at full tilt under any reasonable load. When you're frame/cpu limited the clocks and power consumption dials right back as appropriate, keeping the cards nice and quiet and cool. Just something that I've noticed and appreciate.

I'm really looking forward to seeing RDNA2 in laptops.

Yeah, there aren't really many incentives to capture more of the market at the moment.
