How are people going running the 13.11 beta drivers? Still blackouts in bf4?

The only time I got black screens is when I flashed one of my cards from a 290 stock bios to a 290x unlocked voltage bios. Otherwise have been gaming perfectly since I got the two cards. (I disable crossfire for DX9 games though)

Man I'm just waiting on the custom cooled cards to arrive!
Once they arrive I really think the R290 is the card to get in terms of bang for the buck.

I totally agree, the bang for buck value is off the Richter scale on these R9 290's.

Does anyone here have XFX 7950? The fan is just incredibly loud. Way louder than my old 5850.

Ugh the decisions are so hard to choose... CF 290's or CF 290X's

Whats everyone opinion for them? Worth forking out extra on top for CF 290X's for measly couple FPS?

That a tough question to ask on a forum like this, some people are willing to pay the extra $200 for the 290x over the 290 for the extra 5fps. If you personally dont mind paying $40 per 1 FPS over the 290 then go for the 290x.

It also ultimately depends on your resolution and AA needs.

Ie 1x 2560x1440 monitor is being driven very easily on 2x 290's.

That 5fps might hold a LOT more value for someone running high AA with 3 monitors.

edit - regardless of what you buy, if you want an R9 ref and some overclocking action for gaming you're probably going to want to factor in buying an off the shelf universal air cooler or consider going water. If you can wait go for the non-ref 290's, they're going to spank.

    NAH!

    2x 290 = $998
    2x 290X = $1398
    3x 290 = $1497 ***

Well it seems you don't upgrade often. If you have the budget, motherboard that supports it and power supply go 3x 290's. 2x 290X are great, i'm hoping they pull out a bigger lead from the 290 to make it worth while. otherwise 2x 290's seem to be treating Geno well.

Na havn't upgrade this current machine in awhile.

So do full new PC build, Been hard to decide which i'll get since they'll be under water and if 2x 290's handle it fine with big res i'll just go that option

1x290 runs my 1440 fine, I don't mind the noise cranking the fan profile up to ~50-55% it runs max clocks in doing so...tempted to up it to a GHz edition tonight..might wait for water...hmm

Anyway I had a question regarding the board itself and the Enthoo Primo. I had this brilliant idea of putting a tube res in that case however I'm not sure if it'll fit with the 290.

Question is: what is the size of the board without a cooler on it?

The only Enthoo builds I've seen have taken the res-mount off and used either a bay res or mounted a tube elsewhere.

    Cheers,
    Dom

yes i would wait till the custom colled comes out.

build up the rest of the rig with trifire in mind and wait to see what extra cooling they get.

i haven't seen any benches with 3 so far? anyone? so not sure how it would scale.
plus the power usage would be somewhat high :)

and the refence ones i can see the centre card melting due to lack of air unless you are going to fork out for blocks for all of them in which case none of that matters.

if you want just raw speed and not bench numbers the 290 non x's are the way to go, i have seen them around $480 at the moment and maybe even cheaper.

    oh wait

an example, so as long as the game supports it a reasonable boost but whether it is worth an extra 500 odd is up to you

Well it looks like I will be getting my gear under water tonight - will hopefully be able to push these cards (so long as I can get the volts moving) and see how we go. Will be nice not having 60% fan speed LOL - Would like to see 24k+ :)

You'll get 24k EASY. Im surprised you've waited this long! I tested my cards on air for about... 10min each before slapping the blocks on. :p
