Current thoughts are next year for AMD to transition to new silicon.

I'm really keen on 4k as well, been eyeing one of the AOC monitors, but with AMD having to write custom fixes into their drivers, it might end up being the Asus.

Yeah the 14.7 betas explicitly mention a fix for the AOC, but i would still like to see data from ppl using it after the fix, before the fix it was atrocious.

285 is released and reviews are everywhere dude. To me, its more of a "feature" upgrade for the midrange. Certainly doesnt perform any better than the cards is replaces. 285X is essentially rumor still.

Yeah I still get bluescreens randomly when playing video, youtube/liveleak/mediaplayer.

Rock solid in 3D games though.

Tried like pretty much every 13 driver and 14 driver except for 14.7 beta.
Have no issues with my 5870 when I put it back in.

Having issues in 8.1 Pro with my 280X. Monitor doesn't come back to life after going into power saving mode, power status light keeps flashing.. I just Windows-P a few times, changing to PC only, "projector" (second monitor) only and duplicate. Eventually it comes back, but bloody frustrating.

    Anyone else getting the same?

No BSOD for me with either r9 290, or even the 7970 before it. I run every driver when released, and multiple os's to aid in fault finding on customer's rigs. (If I deal with fault myself I then have exp fixing the problem).
I am mainly using windows 8.1, only issues I have had were black screens on odd occasions, but have sorted that now (problem with widows 8.1 sleep and screen turn off settings).

Basically do not just turn off the timeouts for sleep and screen turn off. You have to disable them in the advanced power options. For some reason changing in the normal options did not change the settings in the advanced options section.....guessing there was a conflict somewhere.

Anyway, these are the settings to make sure are as shown in the below pics.

This bit seen below is not enough to fix it:

Sounds power related. (As in when dropping into lower power modes or changing between different modes). Could be an issue with the card, could also be OS or motherboard related or even compatibility issue. I would see if there is a bios update for your card and motherboard too, might help.
If still having problems, try playing with power settings (eg. sleep, etc in windows, not voltages :p).
Also check the bios for settings to do with power saving on pcie lanes, there are a few boards with these options which are making higher end cards run less stable when on the desktop.

    Hope this helps.

Like dmandn said its probably power related.
I was having the exact same issues with the eVGA GTX780ti ACX 2 days ago, play a video in anything the card would upclock once it started downclocking it would stutter or lock up.
Tried it with the 290x and it did it too.
But once I unplugged 1 LED fan from the motherboard all was working perfectly again.
Had 9 fans plus 2 AIO pumps running from the motherboard fan headers, plugged the pumps directly into 12volt.

I also ended up using the extra PCI-e power plug on the z97x Gaming G1 to supply steady power to the pci-e bus.

Newer card can draw more power from the PCI-e ports especially when overclocking the GPU.

This happens on my AMD acer laptop with the A8 APU and 8750M, overnight sometimes after the screen turns off it will not wake back up again and i have to hard reset it get the screen back.

I have also lost the ability to adjust screen brightness for the last two drivers as well.
