Question is...Will they still be using the infamous red/white colours?

hopefully amd does with video cards what they did with cpu's, raw power at great prices - alot better competition

wow. didn't really expect that. the fact that the whole industry is changing due to this merger is really sinking in now.

I think this is wrong - I do like the ATI brand and for AMD to do this isn't really listening to the 'fans'.

ati has been struggling lately against nvidia. AMD is a established force in the IT industry, the underdogs who took on Intel. I reckon the change will do good.

In the long run, it will work out better for AMD. By the time Intel starts making GPU, AMD will be on the roll.

What will happen to nVidia

I read that Intel will be making its own GPU in time to come. Maybe nVidia could make its own CPU   or say good bye.

I gather that Intel's not really aiming at taking out the top-end market (yet). They just want to be able to have a fair portion of the mid-range.

Nvidia will get by. They've got their chipset business (which has worked well for them), and they'll probably still keep up with AMD pretty easily (AMD has to concentrate on CPUs and GPUs; Nvidia doesn't).

I don't particularly like AMD removing ATI as a brand - why bother? Does it give them any financial benefit at all? The only thing I can see it doing is annoying Dell (because Dell have traditionally been Intel-only, but they use ATI video cards). That said, Dell's now planning to use AMD CPUs on the desktop too.

Intel already make their own GPU's and actually sell more than anyone else (I think by a fair margin).

But before anyone tells me, yes their GPU's are not in the same league as ATI/Nvidia but to remember thats not the intended market

Which has to be a good thing. Better competition all-round.

Indeed, that's a good point (although it may have changed now; I remember that a while ago Intel said they didn't want to make so many budget chipsets).

However, the PowerVR move should be good. Their next IGP (GMA X3000) seems to be based on it, so it could actually compete pretty nicely with the Nvidia and ATI IGPs.
