Turns out my memory was getting the best of me :upset:

"As Videocardz points out, this score was achieved with an overclocked Radeon RX Vega 687F:C1, and so the comparison isn’t necessarily valid at this point. The site does point out, however, that these results seem to be significantly improved from just three months ago, with the card achieving a 15-percent performance improvement. That bodes well for the GPU’s eventual release, given that AMD still has time to optimize the line before it makes its way into gamers’ machines."

It's improved, but it was a mix of drivers, and a higher clock rate, over a 3 month period. My bad!

I mean, you're not wrong about the porn stache.

Curiously though, since the raw Tflop performance is higher, is there any reason that it wouldn't eventually overtake the 1080Ti since from memory it's not quite as boastful in that regard? or are we talking some SUPER special circumstances for that to happen if at all?

Its possible. I mean the fury x caught just under the 980ti but it took a while. Its more like if compnaies take on amds tech more than anything.

Nv always have an answer to amd though so it makes it hard all round and its reflected though pricing.

Fixed for all three of you :)

I think I'm in the same boat as most people. I really want Vega to be competitive but you can't help think the signs point to it not being so unless it's priced quite low. I have a GTX1080 as well so I can't support AMD if it's even on par because then it would just be a sidegrade.

I'm very happy that they're finally competitive in the CPU market so that we can all benefit and if they come up with something on par with the flagship 2xxx series they'll get my money.

I'm very confident its just going to be a Vega Frontier Edition overclocked.

What the final clock speed will be is unknown, at 1600mhz it will be decent performance.

But I really think the problem will be price because they won't be blowing anything out of the water but they will price it according to their DX12 performance.

If AMD actually considered that there is a high percentage of Nvidia favoured games and they either need to improve drivers or price accordingly, I think they would sell well.

Or.. they can just keep playing the future game and hope they have enough cash to burn until 2019-2020 where a decent percentage of games released are DX12.

    --------------

Just noticed this, RX Vega 3DMark Fire Strike results with the clock speeds we are expecting.

    https://videocardz.com/71090/amd-radeon-rx-vega-3dmark-fire-strike-performance

It doesn't look good for AMD, who knows maybe it will be priced well.

Could we see a reversal of hd5870 vs gtx480 -> hd6970 vs gtx 580. Obviously AMD have already done well with Polaris and nVidia are killing it currently with Pascal.

Could be interesting to see how a Vega refresh performs.

Price could be a problem, remember HBM is extremely expensive to produce...

Edit, also a few pics of the card, apparently.

    AlienWare via Reddit.

Kyle Bennet from HardOCP via Video Cardz.

Got to be honest, it looks like the HardOCP card looks like a 480 with an extra sticker slapped on the cooler and a small RX2 label taped to the bottom .

yeah if you search vega frontier on 3dmark there is one guy with a few results one is with the card at 1600 and scores 23k graphics...so pretty much lines up.

problem is to be relevant it has to the same or less than a 1080 or it just won't fly.
    still getting one though :)

inb4 the top tier vega rx is more expensive and slower than the 1080 at launch

that and the buttcoin miners will screw up the pricing and supply the world over even though they have access to the vega fe.

    inb4 $1000aud and $500usd

 miners wont take it if it pulls 300w+.

You are right though it will probably be more expensive because of HBM which is shitty.

5 days left, sloooooooow aaaaaaas sshiiiiiiit.

and according to the leaked benches the base and mid tier vega are not any faster than the 1070 so there isnt gonna be much point in buying one with double the tdp for the same price

Don't forget we get massively ripped off over here on anything tech related, just look at how overpriced the FE card is here.

In saying that I'm willing to drop $1000 on a WC version because I need a new card :leet:.

Main thing I'm hoping to see is 3 displayport connections on all Vega cards and no stupid DVI.

I'd want Vega just to try it for rendering, and to have a full AMD system... been quite some time.

    pretty much.
