I'm going to be in the States for next few weeks. Any chance this won't just be a paper launch?

    I'm not hopeful :(

I've been trying to find out for the last few days, apparently no review samples have been sent out (as far as I've found) so either there doing what they did with FE which is to just launch it and the press will get samples later or it is a paper launch and we'll be getting it in a few weeks.

I did see a rumour on Reddit I think it was a few days ago hinting that it would be a paper launch and the real cards would be coming later in August with AIB cards coming early September.

Edit, count down timer to the event.

The press event starts around 12:30pm. Should find out more then.

Okay Videocardz has up all the Vega details announced by AMD. Vega 64 is $499 while Vega 56 is $399.

the air cooled version looks reasonable value, priced to match a gtx 1080 but beat it at launch and improve further over time. The air cooled clocks a bit low, base clock is noticably lower than a Vega FE which was power limited and needed undervolting to get it to run at boost clock consistently.

I guess the street price will depend if it is suitable for mining (efficiency).

USD $499 Vega RX64 (MSRP) vs $499 USD Gtx 1080 (MSRP)

I used MSRP (American RRP) as both cards street price would be effected by mining.

At launch it seems between the two cards non watercooled, 1080 will be clear winner, (since the release benchmarks are Vega water vs Nvidia Aircooled), with driver development later maybe on par.

Available in September, so I guess it is up to Nvidia, the $64 question being what will happen if Nvidia drops the price of 1080 to $450, though why?

Because a fair comparison will be

Water cooled vs Water Cooled - seems likely Nvidia will have the edge
Air Cooled vs Air Cooled - seems likely Nvidia will have the edge

Otherwise why would AMD use benchmarks Watered RX vs Air Cooled 1080 being neck to neck

hmm, the blower RX edition has actually lower clocks compared to Vega FE, everyone was expecting the opposite?

Wondering how much more will the AIB partners be able to squeeze with aftermarket coolers like the Strix and the pricing.

Also nice to see AMD is bundling games with the Mobo/CPU, haven't seen this for very very long time.

Giving discounts on the Monitors, AMD know that they cannot put the pricing much lower due to the HBM2 pricing, make sense to compensate this way.

all we need now are the FPS numbers and benchmarks :D

    Something doesn't seem right here...

    Those clocks are super low.

Surely the release benchmarks weren't random, these are the best selected benchmarks AMD had. It would be very amateur hour if they used benchmarks the CEO liked which showed bad results, if they had benches that beat the aircooled FE 1080 by 20%??

I could find a use for it ;). Bet that's the card the miners will go for depending on price / hashrate.

Edit, how long is this event meant to go for anyway?

Bloody hard to justify that TDP over a standard 1070. I cant still believe my 1070 only need 1 8 pin.

who is hosting the event? got a link to the feed?

    Yeah true.

Nope unless someone there is doing a livestream because AMD isn't, were just gonna have to follow the Radeon Twitter account for updates. Pretty sure it's that account they'll be Tweeting to anyway.

No official stream but every reporter and YouTuber will be texting information back to the office.

It would be illegal for amd to have a wifi or cell block placed on venue.
They would be sued to bankruptcy if an emergency happened to someone there or was uncontactable for an emergency.
