Yeah but when it tries to shoehorn its self in by default and hell, on my brand new ROG laptop it was causing hard shutdowns. Yeah I'd go so far as to call it AIDS especially given, as you said, it isn't required.

if you are a close your eyes and next, next, next installer then you deserve everything you get :) And if you are you are probably the exact person that could use the product because it will remind your lazy arse to keep your drivers up to date.

While this might be true (I'm custom install all the way), buying a new laptop with that AIDS on top of the usual bloatware wasn't fun.

Ah ha, that finally explains why I can buy aftermarket "Gsync" panels e.g. 4K 17" panel for as little as $100USD and a 1440p 120Hz for not much more!

Nvidia still lock it down and the combination of chassis, video card, and panel all need to be on their "whitelist", for which of course they charge the OEM mega $$$ and so the end user ends up paying anyway

Couple of Gamers Nexus videos I havent seen mentioned.

    1) "game mode" and "pro mode" drivers in the FE basically identical performance and no change except UI

    2) Vega showing no improvement in performance per clock over Fury (i.e. no observable architectural advantage when Vega is downclocked to Fury speeds)

Basically contributing to the narrative was FE is such a horribly unready for launch product that we cant tell if its borked right now by hardware or drivers or both.

On the one hand all this FE analysis gives no real guidance on what RX will do, on the other it suggests that buggy slow drivers on release will not be a question of if but how much

The funny thing about adaptive sync is that it becomes less useful, if not irrelevant at high frames rates. If you are getting a steady 100+ fps on a 144Hz monitor you are better off having adaptive sync off as it increases frame input latency.

Interesting. I've linked below the long video which shows clock for clock identical performance to fury x in all games. The most interesting bits are 16:19 where somehow Vega FE @ stock is almost the same performance as when downclocked to 1050mhz.

But there are huge gains in cad software between fury x and Vega FE clock for clock. Skip to 17:50 for the speviewperf chart.
