Its chalk and cheese in terms of product placement. This is a low volume highend card. Not a high volume low/mid range card. In one aspect the nVidia CEO is right - AMD probably did decide late in the piece to release Vega VII, but only because nVidia's 2080 pricing allowed it to do so.

    Vega VII is a compute card 1st, gaming 2nd. Vega VII is just rebranded Instinct MI50 gpu. AMD added a number of things to 7nm Vega/Instinct that has nothing to do with gaming;
    • brings support for half-rate double precision – up from 1/16th rate – and AMD is supporting new low precision data types as well. These INT8 and INT4 instructions are especially useful for machine learning inferencing
    • The GPU adds another pair of HBM2 memory controllers, giving it 4 in total. Combined with a modest increase in memory clockspeeds to 2Gbps, and AMD now has a full 1TB/sec of memory bandwidth in the GPU’s fastest configuration. This is even more than NVIDIA’s flagship GV100 GPU
    • as this is an enterprise-focused GPU, it offers end-to-end ECC, marking the first AMD GPU to offer complete ECC support in several years.
    • the GPU supports the recently finalized PCIe 4 standard
    • GPU also includes a pair of off-chip Infinity Fabric links, allowing for the Radeon Instinct cards to be directly connected to each other via the coherent links

They walked away from PC's - they believed that discrete GPU market would be dead and buried by now. TBH they put themselves in this position and normally would say they deserve to fail hard - pretty much like they are doing, however it does leave the market with only 1 decent provider, maybe Intel can infarct bring some competition.

I think this (Radeon VII) will be a good card for me, will let me move away from nVidia and still maintain the performance in games and probably better performance in compute. The only reason I have the Titan is there wasn't anything from AMD that would give that level of gaming and be still good with compute (and I tried the Vega FE, just wasn't enough).

They ran out of funds for new GPU tech because even when AMD was faster, cheaper and used less power people still purchased Nvidia cards instead .. Navi is a 7nm GPU at RTX 2070 performance with a lower TDP and at a better price.. so there's going to be at least some type of completion come mid 2019.. the high end will be lost to Nvidia in 2019 though. as when they move to 7nm things will get crazy.. at least the mid range stuff will be cheap

Navi in the PS5 is stated to run games at minimum 4k 60FPS but surpassed that with ease according to SONY CEO.. all with a low power draw. AMD have hit a 7nm jackpot this Navi.

$700 US = $974 AU straight up currency conversion than you add GST, early adopter taxes, hidden taxes, BS taxes, shops gonna make a profit tax, etc.. Good luck.

AMD might do a Vega 64 BS tactics by giving rebates ( you don't loose much money if there are no stocks to sale) to make it look cheap than you'll never see that price for another year or so and no stocks for ages.

reading that it's playing in the 1080Ti's pool. hmmm

even going backwards there, lost one console to nvidia - so yeah, the hottest console of the moment is running on super cheap cheap nv silicon.

    oops.

Msi lists the power consumption specs
    VII @ 300w
    2080 @ 260w
    2080ti @ 350w

If amd has caught up to NV in chip efficiency that may hint to how the cards are ranked(or not).

why would you bother you could have had the same performance as this card that uses less power and wont melt the polar ice cars from 2 years ago.

    I'm keen for one.

But my current Vega plays all games I play at twice my screens refresh rate or more....
