I am hanging out for some good AMD server / high end workstation gear so I can finally build a ZFS system and ditch RAID on NAS. :p Will have to pull the Yeon Yang cube server out of storage.

My last AMD CPU was in 2001... old T-Bird 1.33GHz. Would be nice to have some non-Intel gear again. :leet:

    lol what overclocking possibilities

thread ripper will top out at 4ghz like every other ryzen being as many cores as they are most likely much less than this.

ryzen is not what you would consider a good overclocking chip

Yes court jester, I don't expect it to reach over 4 Ghz. Which for a 3.0Ghz CPU with 16 cores, would be a very significant overclock.

    Thats my whole point.

I think your also dreaming if you think the 16 core part will get anywhere near 4ghz on average

and your reasons for thinking this?

Zeppelin is completely Fmax limited, not thermal. Threadripper is two Zeppelin dies, so as long as the VRM's can supply, and you can cool ~240-300w of Power/heat (i.e double the 120-150w a 4Ghz 1800x consumes) 4ghz is in reach.

This is less power than an OC'd 7900x is sucking down, so that aspect should not be an issue.

thats a matter of perspective don't you think....900mhz overclock on a 3 gig chip is pretty good considering its 8 core..

heh.. I am running 3.7, even though I can easily handle 3.9+ cooling wise and chip wise. I just don't need it and don't want to burn through power.

Ok guys hit me with the best compatible 32GB 3200Mhz kit's that will work with a ROG Crosshair VI.

Have to be able to get them from PCCG or Scorptec (Scorptec first preference).
