I was looking at a stack of motherboard boxes in the corner of the room, and being affected by boredom in my 6th week of annual leave, decided to make something of a firehazard out of them :) I know these have been done before, but this has been fun to make, even if it is a bodgy piece of crap :p

It isn't finished- I’m gonna shoot down to ARC tomorrow and pick up an el-cheapo PSU to power it- other than that, it should work..

It is 3 boxes high- with the bottom box being PSU, middle box being storage, and the top being processing. The bottom box required some cutting so the PSU could protrude out the top.

There will be a column of holes through the bottoms of the boxes to accommodate power cables, up the front, left hand side.

The second box, which will hold storage, has holes cut in the bottom for power and to let the PSU fit.

At the back is space for a fan, who’s hole was being sketched with my rather unsteady hand :)

Corresponding with a hole in the power box:

Hard disks in the storage box:

Lid closed on the storage box, with appropriate holes cut to facilitate cabling for the drives and power:

Processing box on top, with cables poking through the bottom:

Motherboard in place and plugged in:

    Everything closed:

The fan wouldn't fit on the inside :(

Still to do, is to get that power supply, and wire up those fans with molex connectors.

Comments are welcome even if it is "You're an idiot and deserve to die in a housefire" :)

Lol thanks- about as bored as the stage of sifting through heaps of dead power supplies lying around the place, looking for parts to use (ie fans, molex connectors)..

Dude, put something over the back of the PSU, stat. It is dangerous the way you have it set up.

Why didnt you put the hard drive in the same box as the PSU, leave out the moddle box and thus make the whole thing 1/3rd smaller?

Are you planning on putting in lots of hdd's?

The middle box was made necessary by the height of the PSU.

I have a few spare boxes though, so that might work out.
Lol not really- it only has 2 pata ports
It was more a way to somehow enclose an otherwise working system.

this one time, i made a cardboard box body for my remote control car. it fitted fine and didn't get burnt by the engine but it was soooo heavy it made the clutch melt.
