Anthem has no paid expansions. All post launch content is being funded by microtransactions.
Hell they've even put out an end game roadmap with more content being dropped in March.
I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt as it's Bioware's first time making a looter shooter. Training wheels are probably still on dev wise.
What's not cool is when developers like Bungie take the same development path and forget all the positives in D1:TTK and make D2 vanilla.

Yeah Destiny 2 coming out the way it did after Age of Triumph was just Inexcusable.

That being said, anthem has been in development for 6 years and they had so many things to take note of and learn from and they didn't...

I would suggest that most of those 6 years were adapting and updating the frostbite engine to allow flight in game and creating the open world.
Visually this game is pretty impressive. So at least it's no fallout 76.
Yes this game could use more innovation and better enemy variety however
everyone has said with live service games, it's a case of wait and see.

Impressive? It looks shit. And what really shits me is that it looked and ran much better before the demo. What happened to that build? Was it all pre-rendered footage?

I am talking about from a design perspective the combat and gameplay overall. The spongey bosses could be patched out. The locking into freeplay for the campaign isn't part of the combat, its mission design.

Back in she goes. I'll set timer for 10 to 12 months.

This game is way too buggy for my liking so I've gone ahead and put in for a refund request.

    Man I am so bummed.

EDIT: I'll probably try again in the future but with origin access next time. though i also did a sneaky thing and saved the soundtrack before the requesting the refund so I got that freebie :D

A well measured review from the folks over at Polygon - which after watching many, MANY hours of various twitch streamers, and listening to their observations and comments, I agree with.

via Polygon - Anthem review: stop hitting yourself

After being burned so bad with Fallout 76 - im glad I waited a bit more on this one. If Bioware can erase some of the issues then I'll revisit my decision to not buy into this game/service.

"well measured" and "Polygon" in the same sentence, oof.

This games still going to be bad in 12 months. Rotten from the core.

    Slightly off topic.

So if the main team at Bioware (Edmonton?) is/was working on Anthem, who is working on the new Dragon Age? I actually don't understand how game development works. Do they have 2 teams working on separate projects, and then they combine them when one finishes - leaving only a small team for updates, or what?

Yeah, I just used 2 as an example. I was thinking about the catastrophe of Andromeda, and how the main studio was not the one that worked on it - they got their other office to work on it (the one that did the Omega DLC and multiplayer). I'd assume that the same team that worked on Inquisition would be working on the new Dragon Age, but I'm pretty sure that they're all working on Anthem, for now. I don't know. I just want a new RPG to play.

So many games in the past four weeks, mostly underwhelming it seems. All good from my perspective I suppose.

I don't think many had high hopes for Anthem. I mean, the buzz just wasn't really there.
