Super exciting and impressive, but what is relative performance?

    See figures in Anandtech article

Lmao even when Apple give Pro users what they want they still stuff it up.

It only comes with HDMI 2.0

    Even through USB-C (Thunderbolt 4)?

17 hours video playback on battery. Apple have killed it. (21 hours on the Max)

    oh and hardware ProRes...

I don’t understand the obsession with magsafe as if we live in a world with a covid like contagion of people tripping over cables. That could have been another usb port.
Still, I’m just waiting on actual benchmarks of the gpu to decide on which chip to get in my 14” macbook pro.
Anyone in the market for a 6 month old m1 MacBook Air?

Read the footnote on the bottom right corner.
M1 pro gpu is equivalent to Nvidia RTX 3050Ti
M1 max gpu is equivalent to Nvidia RTX 3080

I genuinely think it's one of Apple's best designs.

My background is both enterprise support where people are morons and trash expensive machines, as well as a father of three children who all have had a solid crack at running directly though a charge cable to send devices flying.

If you're privileged enough to live in complete isolation from either children, or full grown adults who are as intelligent as children, you have my envy. For the rest of us, magsafe is a brilliant way to ensure our tools don't get trashed by those of low intellect and awareness.

Im easy either way just glad you can still charge over USB-C also…

HDMI lol… use USB-C it can drive 3 XDR displays in the base model alone… if that isn’t enough video throughput…

i saw that, but this is a vague and cherrypicked graph, I’m looking for numbers for the different core count skus in different workloads, which will probably come in a few days (i hope).
I was literally in the middle of ordering at 4am this morning when i realised you can get all 3 variations of m1 pro and both m1 max socs on the 14”

Fair point, perhaps I’m the niche case. At home i have it docked to my monitor or off ac altogether, fearing only my dogs errant tongue. And I’ve never been in a situation at work where my macbooks on a surface that doesn’t have a power point above it.

It gets pretty dear if you go the M1 max.
I think I only need M1 pro - full 10 core and full 16 core gpu with 16gb of ram.
This will be more powerful than my PC right now and it will be portable.

Wait for review to come out before I jump over this.
Who cares if I have to wait till after early next year to get one.

    Pretty amazing update!

    So much to like!

Shame the SSD upgrades are still ludicrous!

$900 to go for 2TB is just a bit rude. But that’s how it’s been for a while, so nothing new there!

Other than that, these new Macs are insanely good value and make every other laptop look like trash!

    No USB-A? Motherf...

TO be fair, the base model is 512gb, which is pretty decent, and I'm kinda wondering if I'll bother up-speccing that. I am looking at the 14" with the upgraded Pro chip I think, not sure I'll need the Max, unless mining becomes a thing on Macs...

32GB RAM is probably my other upgrade. I'm not sure I can stretch for the 16" version of that...

    Z..

I keep going down that rabbit hole.... 24 GPU cores becomes 32GB of ram then 1TB storage... $800 later...

I'm gonna opt for the 16" max base. just want to see some benchmarks first.

I am not rushing out and spend $5k on a macbook just yet.
Lets see the benchmark and see what is the metrics.
It is quite a bit of coin to drop for a laptop. LOL

Yeah I'm very thirsty for the benchmarks. The good thing about absurd apple prices is my two year old MBP16 is still worth 3k, so the changeover cost isn't actually that big.

Definitely fair - $5000 is car money for most people.

With that said, redesigned high end MacBook Pros have been able to be used for 6-7 years without issue for the last few generations (2012, 2015) even for heavy users

Can the current M1's play games? Or are they comparing a 3080 in terms of video rendering/AI stuff?
