    Awww :( I thought I could be trusted :(

All the links are legit, the one in the OP is a site microsoft have put up for people too computer illiterate to know whether they're running windows XP or not. The sort of people I look after at work actually... It tells you if you're running XP, or.. not.

Well it does recommend you replace XP with a virus called windows 8, so I guess you were right to be suspicious all along...

My wife is still running XP at work, due to the nature of the working environment (Central IT, but each lab buys their own equipment) they can't actually upgrade her unless her boss agrees to buy a new computer (Since they don't/won't buy individual licenses).

I still have probably 30 XP machines in my area. Replacements have been ordered but are taking their sweet time getting to me. Most likely won't have them all replaced by the cut off, which I'm sure will create some paperwork for someone re: PCI compliance, but meh.

Hitting it from my Linux workstation, it says I'm not running WinXP.

    Good to know.

It's recommending 8.1 as what you want to upgrade to!

I've recommended OS X to one person who was mulling over the idea, and seriously thought about putting *nix on my 60 yr old neighbour's recent acquisition, his first computer (something I had laying around, a USB WiFi dongle and a printer so he can print his horse forms).

Only didn't cause win7 lets me farm off half the hand holding :)

    8 / 8.1 is the devil.

    And I run 8...

How can I set my own wallpaper?
How do I set my icons back to double-click?
How do I make IE open at my homepage, all the time?
How do I rollback to XP after mistakenly upgrading to Windows 8?

Thanks Microsoft I anticipate your response...
