ArmA Reforger is due to be announced on Tuesday.

    upload_2022-5-15_20-51-36.jpeg

ArmA Reforger is taking the franchise back to a Cold War setting. It will be a multiplayer focused title with a full editor and mod support. It appears there will be no campaign. It is the first ArmA title to be on consoles (excluding Operation Flashpoint Elite for the X360)

ArmA Reforger is also a test bed for Bohemia’s new engine, Enfusion. Bohemia will use Reforger to gather feedback on the engine whilst they work on ArmA 4 - the next main instalment. When ArmA 4 does release - the modding / missing making scene will already have a plethora of mods and missions to port straight across.

EDIT: Game has now been released. Available here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1874880/Arma_Reforger/ $39.95 AUD

    Multiplayer only.

I mean.. there's a huge market that they could pick up from the failure of Battlefield.

If they've made it a bit more casual than the old ARMAs it could take off.

Let's hope they've REALLY focused on performance with the new engine. I tried Arma 3 again a couple of months ago & it's still horribly CPU-bound. Even with a pretty grunty modern CPU it runs terribly.

I interpret 'multiplayer only' to mean 'campaign not ready yet, coming in 12 months'. Hopefully thats how it plays out!

I think this is potentially just a “demo” of the new engine, used as a pathway between ArmA 3 and 4. They obviously aren’t ready for ArmA 4 yet, so they appear to be releasing Reforger as a test bed of the engine and the mod support / mission editor. So when ArmA 4 comes around, it should be a much more smooth product after Reforger “demo”.

Edit: Leaker on twitter seems to think Reforger is getting announced and released tomorrow, same way as Apex Legends it seems.

Tomorrow from today. The twitch stream is at 3am eastern state time on Wed, goes until 5am.

    It'd be on steam right?

Yep - from the leaked marketing documentation, it had all the Steam banners and artwork.

I see what you're saying but given Bohemia's focus that will never happen. Their skillsets in milsim and they should stick to that.

If I were Activision, i'd be looking to expand COD to include a proper BF style mode. I know they have a mode like that, forgot what it's called right now but i'm talking a more flesh out separate product.

    Anyway, i'm excited for this!

This looks like a great balance between the arcade style modern battlefield games and the current military sims like Squad.

Glad their engine could finally be used for something as the Enfusion engine is not suitable for DayZ and its zombies.

Downloaded it this morning - looks good. It has AMD FidelityFX 1.0 implemented, so hopefully it isn't too much to update it to 2.0. Lots of the good first impressions from Youtubers too. It is lacking a bit unfortunately, there's no tanks, helicopters or jets - but hopefully that all comes soon.

    Some impressions:

Based on the few thousand hours i put into dayz along with the 3 or 4 videos ive seen so far already from reforger of flying cars I'd say the enfusion engine in its current state is more suitable for zombies than a milsim game with vehicles.

This isn't correct according to the videos above, Early Access currently has 2 modes right now:

    Conflict
: A PVP mode fighting for resources and territory that also has AI bots mixed in.
Game Master: Basically same as ARMA3, so players can plan custom campaigns for PVP or PVE vs AI.

Also the game has steam workshop mod support off the bat

I am trying to create a OCAU server - but so far, there is limited documentation on server creation, so will keep trying. Just running it off my plex server (in sig) with 1000/50 plan, so should be able to handle it.

Used to play Arma/Arma II back in the day - got on a server today (after many unsuccesful attempts), jumped in a UAZ and someone was singing the 'Venga Bus' song

    Good times :)

Tried to launch the sever - keeps crashing, so will keep problem solving.

After playing a while, there are some great positives, but it does feel a little lack lustre. I hope many modding communities are working quickly to get some extra gear in there. I can see the first mod group that brings in some modern kit will be extremely popular.

Can you host on your own PC for yourself and other players like you could in Arma?

runs fine in sp, mp is a crapshoot. refunded
seems fun as a techdemo but charging full price 35$ vs arma 3 or squad whatnot which are obviously much more mature is a bit shitty, then apparently the servers getting ddossed

OCAU server is online - just filter OCAU in multiplayer. Let me know if there's any dramas.
