    Hi guys,

I got given a couple of Asus eee pc 1025C & a 1201PN mini-laptop. They all came with Windows 7, but was considering putting something 'lighter' on them for use. I was looking at a Linux version but others have said these type of laptops lack support & overall, they're next to useless (for lack of a better term).

Are these worth keeping around? I think they're pretty neat but if they're going to be quite slow with Win7+ or lacking support for linux or even dropping back to WinXP (might lack support for that one too), has anyone used these with older OS or linux? Do you still find them useful ?

You could maybe turn them into piholes or something similar? I run a very old atom mini PC with Debian on it for this purpose. With the NVIDIA Ion they might also be able to transcode - so maybe Plex? You wouldn't want to put XP on them, as soon as they go on the internet they'll be infected. 7 would not be ideal, either.

If you can find a version if Linux that supports the hardware it might be OK, I would 100% not run windows on them.

I had a netbook back in the day (plex/torrent machine) and for that it was OK, as long as you never had to interact with it as it was a total dog.

I put xubuntu on the og eeepc.
    600mhz, 512mb

    Ran fine.

Just find a Linux that uses xfce and you'll be good.
