i scored a nice little Asus E402s 14 inch (netbook?) pretty basic
only 32 gig memory card in it (may swap it out)

problem: no mouse, it come in as a constant reboot using win 10
silly me flattened it & used win 8 without thinking of using the recovery 1st
so its fine but no mousepad, asus drivers has only win 10 stuff.

i even tried: boot to xp cd = bluescreens
boot to win 10 dvd = memory error, i guess theres not enough room on it, as it says that if i run 10 from inside windows 8

so the question is, is these things only win 10 compatible or maybe mousepads screwed

The touch pad should work without any special drivers. Just reinstalled win 8.1 on ASUS s400c and it worked straight away. Drivers were needed for special gestures, like page scrolling, zooming, ect.

I would download win10x64 iso from M$ and see if that makes it work. Perhaps open it up and check if the flat connector from the pad is connected to the M/B.

This was a Very budget laptop, the 32GB storage was one of the cost cutting measures...

I would still try win 10 and check the connector inside, have had about 10 second hand laptops and never seen stuffed pad.

yes i will, but waiting for a new 2.5 drive to turn up
for some reason, it wont boot to win 10, or 8 or 7 or xp for that matter lol
i only seen the 32 gig inbuilt once, when i 1st flattened it
    might try a ram test

Good result! It must be some win 10 specific driver...:)

Asus laptops need the driver for the function buttons to work. by default the function of the touchpad is disabled unless you have the driver installed for the Fn function keys. iv spent hours on that one before.
