I just bought a Dell Ultrasharp U2913WM 29" Ultra Widescreen (uses the same panel AFAIK) and its fantastic for gaming and everything else. Much better than having dual screens since you don't get the bezel in the middle and also the res isn't as beefy which means you don't need a super graphics card. My GTX460 Ti still runs all the games I play online (ie. BF3) at 2560 x 1080 with no real slowdowns (most of the time I get 50+ FPS on Ultra with AA turned off).

I believe the resolution is only a further 25% performance hit compared to running at 1920 x 1080

How do you find it for general web browsing?
Do you watch many tv shows on it?
Do you miss the vertical height?

General web browsing is no worries, just use windows key + arrow keys to adjust the window as you see fit just like a normal widescreen. Even if you go in full screen I haven't found any web pages that render strangely.

TV shows are the same as a normal widescreen except you just get the blank bars on the sides. Movies in 21:9 are fantastic though

Vertical height is something I didn't really think is a big issue since I was using a 23" 1920 x 1080 monitor. I'd say that horizontal width is more useful for me anyway.

Hey M4g3X0r have you hooked up a console (ps3/xbox/wii) to you screen? looking to pull the trigger on a 29" screen but I'm not sure if consoles support 21:9

I've got an XBOX 360 that I hook up to it just to play NBA 2K13 and its fine. You just play with 1:1 pixel ratio (since the max resolution for consoles is 1920 x 1080) and you have black bars on the side... would be the same screen estate playing on a 23-24" screen. Also 1:1 pixel ratio is good if your playing games if your graphics card isn't up to scratch you can reduce the resolution without having terrible downscaling/upscaling blurring. IE. just before I upgraded to a GTX670 my graphics card was struggling on BF3 at 2560 x 1080 so I reduced it to 1920 x 1080 and all was good.

One more argument for 29” ultra widescreen instead of a larger 16:9 screen after having previously owned a 28” Viewsonic is the larger vertical height makes it almost impossible to keep the whole screen in your FOV. You literally have to move your head around to see the “whole” screen especially in games. You don’t have this problem with the 29” ultra wide and I can quite comfortably see the whole screen in my FOV.
