    Hi Guys,

I just got a new ATI 5450 and stuck it in my HTPC. However, when it tried to boot, the motherboard just wants to use the on board VGA. The BIOS is set to boot from PCIE first of course. If I put back my old PCIE 6600GT (which was working previously fine) and it boots straight away off of it. I'm not sure if the motherboard isn't giving the new card enough juice or whether maybe my power supply is too weak. The new video card has no power supply connector.

For reference my board is this old POS with the latest BIOS installed:
    http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=1598

My case is the Fusion 430 (stock 430W PSU). I tried unplugging all my Hard drives and DVD to lower power usage.

The Video card in question (Which works in another PC is):

    Any help appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Gary

Can you reset the Cmos? then make the BIOS read as PCIE again.

Tried that, no dice. Thanks anyway. I'm getting the feeling this mobo just doesn't want to play nicely with this card. Even if I boot into Windows with the onboard card, Windows won't detect the ATI 5450 card

Thanks for the info, I assumed it was something along those lines. Now I just need to find a Micro ATX board with PCIE2. Does anyone know if the G41 chipset boards have this? Most just say "1 x PCIe x16" which I assume is V1 PCIE.

Yeah I ended up buying a G43 motherboard (the G41's all seemed to be PCIE v1) and it worked straight away. Thanks for the help Tarot.
