    What are everyone thoughts?

I suppose we will know more when AU pricing becomes more known, I haven't got my sample yet :upset: :upset: waiting for a Watercooled model from MSI.

I was checking out the VR-Zone review, performance isn't bad....but the most interesting was this section

    http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=4946&s=16

The 8800 seems to smash the HD2900XT in IQ

Seems too little too late from those IQ results to compete with the GTX. However, the overclockability may make the card more popular than the GTS.

i beleive your defination of smash and mine are different
the 8800 is definately better but smashed on one picture whilst using pre release beta drivers is a bit harsh.

i have basically no comments until pricing is out it is only then that the real comparisons can be laid out...plus drivers thta work.

There are too many anomilies in the results to say the card sucks...i mean a 1900 beat it in test...
As for power/heat then definatly go towards the 8800 series cards, but then performance wise unless nvidia are holdign out on us (oh whata shock THAT would be *insert sarcasm*) then the 8 series is pretty much pushed to the wall whereas the ati cards are only infants with alot of room to go (supposedly)

so going by that one review then the 8 series is still the king if you only took that one review

The reviewer did also say that it was hard to pick best IQ out of the two and that the horse that showed better IQ was zoomed in quiet a bit. I don't know about everyone else but I don't normally run around games zoomed in that much :p

Another review http://www.tbreak.com/reviews/article.php?id=511 that I snagged of the other r600 thread has the 2900 besting the GTS 640mb in pretty much all the tests. As I said in the other thread cant really say much until we see pricing but we do know this, the GTX is a monster.

2900xt is looking pretty decent, though I might hold off until tax time to see how the drivers mature. Any ideas on price?

Is it just me or is that vr-zone review busted? None of the images are showing up..

EDIT: seems all vr-zone reviews aren't working properly for me.

Looks like it performs poorly in serious sam 2 according to all of the reviews so far. Would this be fixed in newer drivers or is it something particular to that game and the new architecture? Apart from that it looks pretty good to me, around the same performance as a 640MB 8800GTS or slightly better and hopefully cheaper. :)

Ouch. The HardOCP review doesn't show too pleasing results. In basically every game to match the FPS of the GTS the 2900 must run 2AA or none.

So is that it for now for the 2xxx series? I thought there was supposed to be a faster HD2900 XTX that was supposed to pwn the 8800 ultra? (Sorry if I'm out of the loop).

Most people are testing the cards with 8.37 drivers. There is supposed to be 8.38 drivers out soon which improves performance. Plus you know with ATI you are going to get monthly driver updates.

Hardocp's review doesn't even list drivers used I don't think?

Apparently while the .38s are a better performing driver they still currently have some issues as far as stability goes.

Seems to be a lot of varying results with different drivers. It will be interesting to compare results in a couple of months as ATI/AMD continue driver development.

Power Consumption is a bitch. It uses 6+8 or can use 6+6 for something that Nvidia uses a single 6pin.
