I think people are reading too much into the O.P.s statements of hating treble. He specifically said he hates that tinny sound.

I agree that through crappy speakers, tinny sounding treble does sound horrible. But through higher quality speakers, treble doesnt sound tinny. The OP may find a new love for the full audio spectrum when he is treated to great sound reproduction.

To the OP. I reccoment going into a music store (One that sells guitars and keyboards not a store like JB etc) and ask them to demo some decent Studio Monitors for you, with the music style you like. That will give you a sense of the style of audio reproduction you will get when you upgrade from the Z5500s

I'm actually going to get a pair a go tomorrow. Might like them for when im in a laid back acoustic mood. SMooooooth.

    Then again might hate them.

I really like them. Adding the Matrix made a world of difference though with the dynamic range, so make sure you're using them on a decent amp. Adding the DAC was also just as noticeable!

Using the STX alone before all that was much different experience, so i think you will need the above stuff (amp + DAC) to really get the best out of them. And to think that they even get used for BF3 :D

Well i'll only be using them on the D1 for now, so probably not enough to drive them properly. But I'm sure an amp isn't going to change their sound signature, so the D1 will be enough to decide if I like them enough or not.

I have Swan D1080MKII 08 speakers, over $100 cheaper than A5+ and my mate who has those reckon its better than his A5+

But, they are awesome speakers, i have a 10" active sub hooked up to them.
