I've seen online you can backup and restore Outlook profile to another computer by exporting the registry key. But I'm wondering if this will work on two different versions of Outlook?

My friend wants account and local folders on the Outlook installation on his new laptop. The previous computer has Outlook 2016 and the new one has Outlook 365.

Outlook in Office 365 actually is Outlook 2016, far as I'm aware. The version of MS Office which you get with an Office 365 subscription is the latest build of Office 2016

I gave it a go, I deleted their email account first, shut down Outlook, imported the registry and Outlook produced an error when it started up.
    Didn't work.
I deleted the profile in the registry, imported the pst file from old computer and manually dragged across the folders into their inbox from the data file account.

Now the folders will sync from the server wherever he sets up his email account.
