Ok bit the bullet and decided to make a "Bacon Explosion" and had intentions of photgraphing the progress as i made it but found it to be a sticky messy procedure that didnt lend itself to progress shots with out contantly washing my hands. This wouldnt have been an issue but its stinking hot up here today and didnt want to have raw ingredients sitting around while i mucked around.

    Ingredients :-

    Bacon!!! duh :)

Pork mince:- they recommend on the recipies to just buy sausages of some random flavour and skin them and use this mince. I decided to buy basic pork mince and added chopped onion, rosemary, sage, cummin, garlic powder, parsley and morocan seasoning(mild).

Masterfoods Smokey BBQ Seasoning (bacon rub)

Three 3's Family Recipe BBQ Rib Sauce

Method: Made a 6 x 5 rasher weaved Bacon mat placed the BBQ rub on the Bacon spread the mince on the Bacon mat placed more BBQ Rub placed the cooked remains of the Bacon cut into 1inch(approx) bits onto the mince and added the BBQ sauce.

Rolled the mince and Bacon bits into a roll and then rolled the "Log" into the Bacon mat.

    Finished product.

Now im not particularly happy with the roll it become a little flat i think i had the pork mince inside a little too thick i also clumped ii on in handfulls and pressed it down i think clumping it all in the centre and working it to the edges would have provided a more combined mince to roll up.

But the testing will be in the tasting later tonight.

Well dinner is done and the verdict is....... mmmm porky!!! :)

Ok so i went a little light on the seasoning of the mince as one of my guests is pregnant and i didnt want to upset anything and it could really have been seasoned a little more...

I think i ended up cooking it a little long as well worried about not cooking enough but overall something id be prepard to make again

How long did you cook it for? The missus made me one for my birthday in 2009 for everyone at the party, took 5 hours of cooking in a smoker before it was done....

    Absolutely delicious though!!!

Sadly i didnt have a smoker so i only oven baked it on a very low heat about 160 deg c for 2.5 hrs so i didnt burn the bacon on the outside i relied on "Smokey" style seasonings..... next one i do will definatly be in a smoker i think it missed that final level of flavour the smoking brings...

ok that looks fantastic. I have to make one...

Liquid smoke in a marinade might go down well for those of us without a smoker..

me and the missus are trying this today we have the mat done, the mince is pork/veal with garlic/onions a few herbs...

we rolled the meat in cling wrap and its sitting in the fridge until its time to put it in the oven

edit...do you just baste it while its cooking? so you turn it and put more sauce on it?

You have a death wish for making this. Such a stupid thing to do to your body. So stupid that you have inspired me to do just that.:lol::lol: Just have to find me some worthwhile bacon.
