Is it a bad time to upgrade to a 9700k from a 6700k?

My ram crapped the bed and I just upgraded and am thinking about just doing a whole system overhaul.

I used to upgrade more often but am really out of the loop.

    I will be gaming.

    Thank you :)

AMD Ryzen 3000 launch later today, top end 3900X (12core/24thread) puts i9900k to shame and costs half as much. Definitely worth doing some more research, I'm not saying don't go Intel I'm just saying maybe wait for the launch and see if Intel respond with some price cuts which many suspect they will have to.

9700k is a perfectly good gaming CPU. If you buy one it'll do what you need.

As luke says though if you want MOAR COREZ or maybe cheaper product or a better price/performance ratio then wait for new Ryzens.

I would wait a month or so. Ryzen 3 benchmarks are coming out and frankly, Intel is going to have to respond with some serious price cuts

it's what all the cool kids are doing.

    Gaming PC, still Intel's domain.

Barely, for the <10% fps increase you'd be mad to buy Intel.

that said, 6700K? I'd be getting more ram if the ram "crapped itself".

    You haven't been paying attention.

Intel has only been better recently because intel IPC were faster. Now Ryzen 3 has them beat for IPC and multi threading. I'm an Intel fan btw.

AMD are definitely on the up, i'd still buy the Intel. I game pretty much exclusively on my home PC.

Might even pay to wait a few weeks see if their are price drops.
