Yeah i played this a few months ago, but got sick of it because it was soo buggy for me... Looks alright though for its style
I think it's pretty crappy.. sure it's free, but if you already have a BF game then this really isn't a step forward. This was a few months ago, maybe things have improved and I should try it again.
I thought it was great fun. Most of the 'crapiness' was due to extreme lag. One thing that did shit me was the matchmaking feature and the fact that latency wasn't displayed. Hopefully there will be an option to at least pick another server if you're on a shit one.
I can't see myself going back to play this game though, even when it's released properly. It's several steps down from any current FPS, and I didn't find it offered anything new.
For a free FPS I didn't have high hopes to begin with, and Heroes delivered above and beyond those expectations.
Oh I do appreciate that, and the sort of market it's aimed at... I'm just speaking from my own viewpoint, rather than how I think it will be taken generally.
Mmm, unless theres been some major changes, the beta I played was a Third person shooter, not an FPS at all.
Well true, I don't know if you could change views... but really there's so little difference between what this is and a FPS, it hardly matters. Instead of seeing your gun, you see your whole body - that's about it.
Wait so aussies are playing this? I was under the impression that it was only for yanks. (hence if i installed it i would only get yank servers).
Yes its free, but you will be able to purchase "powerups" such as better weapons etc. So there will be small fees for people to buy better stuff. its an interesting model, and probably part of why they are taking their time with it. That and the lessons they learned about needing some pretty hefty backend infrastructure from BF2. Admittedly they didn't actually expect anyone to access the BF2 backend, betcha that was a costly surprise. Still the requirements for this game infrastructure wise will be ginormous, considering its as much website as it is game. Guess the bean counters are curious how many people will pony up for the extras, vs the cost of running all that network/bandwidth.
