Well, couldn't resist going down to see this monstrosity this morning, 'twas swarming with people trying to get a look but I still managed to take heaps of pics. Here are just a few that I've quickly edited (curves, saturation, cropping). Hope you like them:

Nice pics - good use of scale with people in most of the shots

When are they towing that thing back out to sea anyway?

haven't heard anything much about the ship, everyone seems more worried about the flooding. God knows how they are going to get it out of there, at the moment it doesn't look like its going anywhere. There were airlifting people and supplies to the ship to check whether it's likely to fall apart or not, thats all I've heard so far.

I was waiting for somebody too take some shots.. nice stuff...

I bet its a site to see up close... with the waves pounding on it. Were those shots at low tide or high?

sorry, really don't know what the tides were, the pics were taken around 12 noon, today, but yes, it was quite a site.

wow thats amazing.. makes for a great photography session!

I really like the 3rd shot actually, with the wider angle, brings the whole scene into perspective.

BoM says 12 noon was about halfway between low & high tide for Newcastle today...

Seems to be firmly up on the shore! Gonna be a bugger of a job to get it off, that's for sure!

It ain't goin no where. Its literally stuck on the sand banks, which is kind of a good thing because it doesn't move around in the swells anymore, but now they have nfi how to get it back out to sea :p If you watched the news, or saw some shots of the rudders and propeller, half the thing is under sand now.

Great shots, and good use of people to give relative sizes. I really like the 3rd shot.

The thread title is misleading. It is a bulk carrier not a tanker.

Tankers don't have the big hatch openings on the deck just a myriad of pipes usually.

    Nice pics though. Very nice.

There is another thread with this theme, can we get them combined soon?

May be just personal preference, but the first shot would look better with the sign post lower and in the right hand corner rather than smack in the middle, otherwise a good shot. :)

    Great pictures.

Just wondering if i could get a high res image of the 3rd one. Would make a great background.

    Cheers.
