Hi guys, I am blowing the dust off of an old 2600k, chucking a water loop on it and trying to OC it. What I want to know is what is the best GPU I can get before it stars to be throttled by the 2600k? Currently just have a couple of 580 GTX's lying around. I am really looking for a card that'll run 1080p at the highest settings possible, even on newer titles. I am looking at a RX 580 or seeing if i can get my hands on a Vega 56 (is this overkill?)? Most 1070's are a bit beyond the budget for this build. edit: Really only looking at 60-75 fps for games like Destiny 2, DOOM, GTA V, Overwatch, HotS.
it does depend on if the game is CPU bound. What kind of framerates you are trying to push etc. give us an idea of what games you are looking to play and if you are thinking about above 60Hz.
I have a 1080Ti for 1080p.... i mean it sounds overkill but there are times that i'm thankful I've got it... this is with an Ivy Bridge cpu too. The card renders whatever I can get it to at 4k and then displays it at 1080p, things like BF1 look so much better this way. Also great if I decide to upgrade to a higher res/refresh rate monitor. However, having come from a 1060 6GB, I can say that that level is perfectly fine at 1080p and 60fps
Cheers. Any idea on where AMD cards fit in relation to these or if they're even worth discussing? Haven't bought an AMD card since my 9550.
Really only looking at 60-75 fps for games like Destiny 2, DOOM, GTA V etc. It's legit just an old mobo and cpu i have lying around, I have rig with sli 1080ti's for 4k gaming.
This is where my head's at, but given you've already said 1070's are out of the budget, you need to look at a 1060 or rx480
out of that list only GTA5 really will give you any trouble performance wise - and if you want to go online with it, mmmm yeah I haven't run it with any sort of mid-low cards but I know when I had a GTX980 it pushed it a bit.
1060 and give it an OC. the 1060 is pretty much a 980, but the 1060 should perform a bit better with an OC.
I have a 2600k @ 4.6.....its got a 1070 in it now & that was a big step up from the 970 i had in prior....
