I accidentally deleted a folder on my PVR. I had it plugged in to my laptop, and was transferring other files to it, but the transfer was taking too long so i decided to abort it. Some of the files and folders were left incomplete, so i went and deleted everything, along with the new files in a folder already on the PVR.

Straight away i tried GDB-ntfs, Seagate File Recovery, and EASEUS.

With the first 2 programs i tried, i was about to recover all the files, but most of them were 0kb. With EASEUS, it showed the files size on all the deleted files, so i was very hopeful when i saw that. But it only recovered the same as the others, with most files being 0kb.

I have not written any data to the drive since doing the deletion.

It's a 1TB WD SATA green drive, in a HiMedia PVR, which runs some form of Linux. Connected by USB 2.0, A to B cable.

Why isn't this basic case of file deletion able to be recovered? Is there better software out there?

    Thanks v much.

i only ever use R-Studio for data recovery. And if R-Studio fails, its off to a pro.

Photorec is pretty good. Its Linux but easy to use, just boot of a live cd and install photorec, ubuntu has it in its repos.
