My housemate resurrected one of my old PCs I had about. Windows XP installed perfectly fine and boots. However, when we press Del to try and enter the Bios setup, it only loads up a blank screen with blinking underscore.

I've taken the motherboard battery out. Removed all the HDDS and tried booting. Still doesn't get any further then the blank screen and blinking underscore.

Should I try flash the Bios or is there something simple that I'm missing?

Taking the battery out alone won't do anything. There should be jumpers to reset the BIOS. Take the battery out, put the jumpers to reset, put the battery in, wait, battery out, jumpers back to normal position, battery back in.

This is the usual course of action to remove all bios settings including BIOS passwords in most cases. Hope you figure it out.

Thanks mate, I overlooked that. Battery out and jumper reset fixed it up all good!
