Edit: me and deltoid are writing programs still when we can be bothered, feel free to post!

Offer for this afternoon only, anyone want a windows app written to do just about any task? Something useful or I won't be motivated to finish it.

I've got 8 hours to kill as all my mates are busy. Fire away.

That is a full blown microprocessor project with video processing haha, that would take me 6 months to do at a quality I'd be happy to give to a client.

    Cheers though

The current line of thinking in the thread was taking his USB steering wheel and outputing a value between 0 and 180 in serial to a comm port. Maybe a textbox to send serial and a text box for recieved serial.

    oh this is easy

eh not really, I'd do an average job as I haven't much experience with opengl/cuda anything like that, I'm sure I could figure it out, would it be better than existing projects? probably not.

edit: what would you want it to display? If it isn't fancy graphics I can give it a shot.

XNA is probably going to be the easiest least fuss way to do this, I'll have a bit of a look. What exactly is your definition of "Screen wrapper" and what do you want do you want it to do?

Ok I knocked up a dodgy OSD test with some text that animates, I guess I'm on the right track.

Let me know what you actually want it to do.

    http://db.tt/OVk3APqJ

do I win a prize for doing it that fast?

edit: I hope you didn't mean a screen overlay FOR directx/opengl applications, eg games etc, because that requires dll trickery and C++ and I cbf.

no I meant a fitness "program" like one to follow as opposed to one for a computer to follow. the joke was that i interpreted a different meaning of the word "program"

lame joke, can't think of any programs i need written apart from a 3 DOF inverse kinematics package that will run in arduino

Yeah doing any overlay at all on existing fullscreen apps is difficult as it often requires code injection, or you write it to work with a specific app only etc.

Well that kept me entertained for an hour. Anything else?

lol ok, just eat less = win.

Surely someone has written something to get you started? isn't the main problem the analysis and testing not the code?

Ok, heres a quick easy one.
Basically my mates and me have a few of these FM car USB transmitter things. You plug in your USB drive and it just plays the mp3's of it.

    Ebay Item here

Though they are awesome, they don't do any sort of shuffle. Basically I wanted to be able to plug the stick into the pc with tracks on it and for it to add some sort of number preface to make it a random list every now and again.

    Steps
1- Remove any Numbered preface already there eg (1. Artist - Song => Artist - Song)
    2. Randomly allocate a preface to the tracks (1. Artist - Song)
    3. Plug back into car.

    Thanks,
    Pen

uh-oh. Looks like a memory leak on the OSB demo - This appears 3 down-up cycles in...

RAM usage soars. Possibly not ready for release to market yet. :p

oh lol I know why, each time I redraw it on a different position I don't delete the old instance.

so it creates about ~4000 instances of the 2d text haha win

How about a file rename app.

Ie, take a folder full of files that are named/numbered in sequence (different filenames and extensions, but all in alphabetic/numerical order) and rename them with a common name and a user definable incremental number/etc.
    (for example: Filename - 01, Filename - 02 or Filename - ep01, filename - ep02, etc etc)

Like when you have a heap of episodes that are named with all the extra guff and you want to cleanly rename all of them in order in one hit.

I would love you long time for this. There are file renamers out there, but they all try to be everything that they're not. I just want a simple app for the one purpose.
