    How about a program that compares the audio wave lengths of a music file to determine:

    1. If its a duplicate file of another
    2. Submit to a music matching service, like Shazam, and renames the file accordingly.

    Basically I have so many mp3's some that are named incorrectly, or have been ripped from cd's without a CDDB available. So they are labelled Track 1. etc.

    This really sucks when trying to find some music for the ipod.

    Stream recording bytes and want to calculate memory consumption over time.

    If I have 262144 (256K) apples, and I give you 10 apples per second,
    how many hours/Minutes/Seconds before I run out of apples?

    I think it’s just: (((262144/10)/60)/60) for hours,
    but if I start at 00:00:00:00...
    that is zero hundred hours, zero minutes, and zero seconds, and zero centiseconds,
    what is the time my memory expires?

    My program knows the memory left, but I want the display to tell the user the time left.

    Code:
    my $rate = 10;
    my $size = 262144;
    my $simplesize = ceil($size / $rate); # ceil in Perl rounds decimals up to the nearest integer
    my $hours = int($simplesize / 3600);
    my $mins = int(($simplesize - ($hours * $simplesize)) / 60);
    my $secs = $simplesize - ($hours * $simplesize) - ($mins * $simplesize);
    printf("%02d:%02d:%02d:00", $hours, $mins, $secs);
    Untested, but I think it should be fine

    Honestly, pick an open source project and start hacking. There are so many, and they're keen for code submission. All different shapes, sizes and tasks.

    Jump on github, filter by your preferred programming language if you like, and start digging. Find something that looks good, fork it and start mucking around.

    I've got an idea for a rather simple but very beneficial winamp plugin, I just don't know what to program a plugin in nor how to interface with winamp :lol: But maybe someone would like the challenge?

    Yer. For listening to flac files on my pc, nothing else is as good (for me). Foobar2000 is pretty good, but it never did it for me.
    Foobar is like linux - needs work to get to where you want it.
    Winamp is like windows - just does stuff.

    Spotify was pretty good when I used it with my old mp3 collection.

    I didn't even know spotify had a program :p Good features for winamp are gapless playback and replay gain. It is surprising how many software and even physcial players don't have such capability. The music player on my few years old android phone doesn't have replay gain, for example.

    Anyway, wanna do this sweet plugin for me? :) I don't think the feature I am requesting exists in any player anywhere yet, so maybe you could sell the plugin! (but free for me) You could make the same plugin for foobar etc.

    This could be a good thread... "Random (free) apps request thread".. go on, edit the title? :D

    I'd jump in to write stuff for Arduino/ESP8266, or PHP.

    Although It'll only work if the requesters have some idea of how programming works so they don't ask for months-long megaprojects
