Hi - not sure if this is the right forum.. apologies if not.

I'm a Mac guy - so newb question: Can I sell an opened copy of Windows 8.1?

Im not sure if the serial number has been used before. Does that matter? I do know it's not in use anymore.

Don't want to sell it or pass it on then for someone to have problems registering it.

(I don't really care about MS licensing etc.. that probably says you can't resell :) )

Only retail versions. Is it a full retail?

It says "Windows 8.1 Full Version" on it and has a license key card inside and 2x DVDs for 32bit and 64 bit.

providing this has been removed and not used for a Windows 10 upgrade it qualifies as something you can resell.

Someone gave it to me :)

I just asked them - they said they bought it, opened it, but never installed it.

Also recommend calling Microsoft first to verify the key has not been used.

It doesn't matter if the key has been used.
Keys aren't a single use item.
It only matters that is not still in use when the os is installed elsewhere.

Exactly, and if the new owner has any issues activating a phone call to Microsoft is not the end of the world. Never had a phone activation denied due to previous uses and I've done plenty for customers where you have absolutely no idea what the activation history is of their key.

Thanks for clarifying, this is actually what I meant.
