Just went to JB and played with the 650D.

Really like the touch screen and easy to navigate, look thru photos and change settings.

Was impressed with the Focusing in video and high FPS for photos.

Can get the body $899 from them with Australian Warranty etc.

They said the 600D is very hard to get in store due to Canon slowing down production and upping production of the 650D.

Playing with the camera has changed my mind to the 650D

Have you tried getting your hands on a 60D? When i was comparing the feel between the 600D and the 60D, i preferred the 60D over the 600.
Also, you might consider buying the body only with the new 40mm lens canon released recently and sharing your dad's lens. Am reading all praises and good reviews about the new 40mm. Considering to buy one for myself as well.

    Put down a deposit on a 650D.

I understand the 650D uses Phase Detection for video auto focus, can the camera be also set to use contrast detection instead?

Thinking of using Contrast Detection if its available until i can get a STM lens

Any reason to go with the 650D over the 600D?

Kogan have the 600D with 18-55 for $599

Shoots a bit faster, stereo mic, touch screen.

Image quality is the same, auto focas for video is slow, if you're into DSLR filmmaking you would use an external mic anyway, get a 600d even better that they are cheaper now.

The compatibility with the new lens for continuous auto focus while shooting video is good for people interested in videos i guess.

Went with the 650D because of the touch screen, better focus.

I want to shot video so the STM lens will give better focus

Getting money for my birthday from family and friends, since i wasnt paying for it decided to go 650D.

Better to have it then kicking yourself down the track
